Please spread the word on hiring in our department. We are searching broadly but particularly interested in Systems and Synthetic Biology. I am chairing this faculty search, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
Deadline Oct. 15: We are hiring for a professor at any level to join our creative and dynamic community. Candidates in all areas of #biochemistry will be considered, and we are particularly interested in candidates in systems and synthetic biology. jobs.wisc.edu/jobs/assistant…
University of Wisconsin–Madison Professor Francis Halzen named 2026 Nobel laureate in physics!
How exciting!

Visiting San Francisco and my friends at Stanford this weekend - what exciting news! Congratulations are of course in order!
It was an honor to help Courtney and Kevin with this story! 😀 Watching Courtney's updates/seminars sprouted an idea - she took human ISGs to bacteria & identified TONDO's... So, could we "UNO Reverse" ↩️ that logic and use bacterial TONDO's in mammals? Turns out, yes!
Humans and bacteria share strategies to defend against viruses.
We wondered: could they use each other's genes? Yes, both can!
Bacteria can use human immune genes to defend against phages AND
Human cells can use bacterial genes for viral defense.

Congratulations Emily! The Nominata is UTSW's highest student award for academic excellence! A well deserved win for an incredible @GammonLab lab mate, incredible collaborator, and close friend! Woo!! 🧬🎉
Dynamic immune cell profiling in the gut over the course of a day! A beautiful collection of data sets, congratulations to @ImmYouKnowledgy and friends on a beautiful BioRx submission!

🎉 Thrilled to see our #MosquitoCellAtlas featured on the cover of @CellCellPress! This mosaic represents 367,000+ cells across 19 tissues, unveiling the complex biology that makes mosquitoes the world's deadliest animals. Art meets science! 🦟🎨
New issue alert! 👉 cell.com/cell/current
On the cover: The mosquito mosaic represents the tissues of the atlas presented by Goldman et al. The atlas reveals the complex diversity underlying the mosquito’s remarkable ability to locate human hosts and transmit deadly pathogens
Happy Halloween!! 🎃👻 Hope everyone's family had plenty of candy and fun tonight! 🕷️🕸️ Science to continue on Monday, enjoy the holi-daze ☺️
Checking my cells and infections late tonight for a collaboration - who might I see @ almost 11pm, still hard at work in the lab, @CT_Wu_Lab! One of my favorites, polishing up some last minute data for his talk at our PMID (Microbes, Immunity, & Disease) symposium. What a legend!
$1,005.00 and ~5 miles later - the @GammonLab crew crushed it at the Making Stride Against Breast Cancer ACS event this weekend!

Very proud to have our lab's first work published in @cellhostmicrobe!
In this work, we use functional metagenomics to find phage defenses from human and soil microbiomes!
Congrats to first author @luis840alberto !

My lab’s first preprint!
We used functional metagenomics to identify phage defenses in human and soil microbiomes. We scaled these selections while maintaining accuracy, enabling us to examine 9 habitats for defense elements against 7 phages.

Our (@GammonLab) manuscript on virus-host interactions & RNF214 is now out in @PLOSPathogens! Perhaps one of the coolest things we found was that RNF214 knockout increased viral infections, without altering IFN-Beta signalling or select ISG expression!

Congratulations @BrittMStew and the @OrchardLab_Rob crew! 😁 A nice story on lipids and norovirus infection! biorxiv.org/cgi/content/shor…

Our preprint exploring bacterial effectors & mammalian immunity is out! I often heard during our last project "Why study moths? Do it in mammals!"... So we did, two even! Huge thanks to everyone who contributed to this story, wouldn't be here without y'all

New preprint from Gammon Lab @UTSWMedCenter where bacterial effectors reveal a role for mammalian RNF214 proteins in antiviral immunity in bats and humans! Great collab with the Alto Lab!
