Like everyone else, I'm fleeing despite my algorithm managing to remain pretty untoxic somehow

I've read a lot of boring old books in my years as a historian that I have no idea why they were ever written let alone published but this one from 1901 might take the cake
Absolutely infuriating to read about unanimous political support for opposing water supply monopolies and trying to take it out of private hands IN EIGHTEEN FIFTY
Currently sat in a cafe under a church waiting for a delayed meeting to begin and there is a group of old women loudly debating whether one of them need to see a therapist, a psychic, or a chiropractor to sort out an unspecified issue.
I HAVE QUESTIONS
Will they for the love of god stop saying "party before country". I have no problem with the sentiment but the election is over and as a set of words it just sounds weird - it sounds like it came from a focus group of aliens who learned English by google translating French poetry

Officially fewest seats since 1761. Worst in the whole post reform act era. At only 3 elections SINCE 1708 have they won fewer seats
I've seen a lot of "worst result since X" but found no easy way to track "Tory" seats won over time so I made one. Feel free to copy all 1708-2019, 1832->, or 1918-> into excel/sheets and track if they beat the lowest totals/shares overnight

I might stay drunk forever purely off this video

Obvious caveats: 18thC elections were not democratic, c.1800 the "Tories" kept changing who they were, 1832 Reform Act is "democracy" but still restrictive until 1918, etc. Still fun to make comparisons like below: xitter.cf/M_H_Taylor/status/1808…
Yesterday we finally launched our digital edition of the 1921 Census. I-CeM now contains 221 million records of UK Censuses 1851-1921.
Lets take a super quick look at some of the things you can do with it: 1/12
