Someone asked me how did @rgprojectnova cost $23m
This was my reply:
Hi -
This is great feedback! And this is an early release as described by us in the comms, which was ported from Mobile to PC 45 days
We surely are looking to do ton of improvements and UX changes. We also have a couple of thousand web2 gamers giving us feedback who are gamers and whale guilds.
Although I generally don’t answer this but FYI a big chunk of the team is in SF (extremely costly about 35 people) where we have built some amazing tech like front end mapping and RTS tech that has taken a lot of time and resources most games fail just to do this at scale and on mobile.
There is a 75 people team on the game directly and we have tested 2 IPs including 1 Hollywood IP (they didn’t work for our strategy and was sunk cost, you have to nail it to survive and this genre is one of the hardest to succeed in) after multiple efforts and raises through traditional capital, a studio like ours could stand up a true 4x product. This takes a lot of effort/time/money to build.
We started building the foundation in 2019. If you look around only multi billion dollar companies or some companies that raised $50-100m were able to make this experience right off the bat but took years (so did we).
Most game studios dont have that amount of patience or persistence to raise capital for an ambitious project (we have Skyborne and smaller games for UA funnel as well)
Also Kingdoms of Camelot is a game close to our heart as we worked very closely with Kabam in 2012-13 and the reason why Game of War took over from them was purely it had better technology which was more adaptive to live ops and community.
An interesting fact Benny from our team worked on KoC including Hobbit and Edwin Shew our VP of Product sold his company to Kabam and that core team learning from Edwin’s team (Pheonix Age) was able to move to Scopely and build Star Trek which peaked at $400m in revenue in a year. Star Trek also took 5.5 years in production, multiple mistakes multiple changes in game play UI/UX till they nailed it.

Crypto, on the other hand, has redefined the game: just stay online and keep your notifications on. GTFO

I want to bet that @playhatchlings our simplest game will be the highest revenue generator this month in web3 games. 🙋
