The statement sets out how survivors of VAWG & modern slavery are already being harmed by hostile immigration policies and how the new White Paper policies will deepen this harm. Migrant women deserve safety, not hostility. (2/3)

The government has announced six new measures to tackle so called ‘honour’-based abuse (HBA) in the UK, including introducing a statutory definition, strengthening multi-agency guidance, improving police risk assessments, and launching awareness campaigns. This represents a pivotal step in the fight to end HBA, alongside commitments to research prevalence and expand professional training. This landmark moment has been made possible through the #Push4Change campaign and the partnership work of survivors, specialist organisations, and allies—partnership of which we have been proud to be part. To sustain this progress, it is vital that by and for organisations, who hold the expertise and cultural understanding to address HBA, are meaningfully consulted and sustainably funded. #EndHBA #EndVAWG

The new @imkaan report ‘Why Should Our Rage Be Tidy?’ shows that healing from domestic abuse is about more than services. It is about trust, connection, and culturally rooted, trauma-informed spaces. It is imperative that survivors’s needs are treated with compassion, belonging, and relational repair to truly heal and flourish. #TraumaInformedCare #HealingJustice #AWRC #EndVAWG #BelieveSurvivors

At AWRC, our support to survivors is rooted in trauma-informed practice. We recognise the impact trauma has on how people think, feel, and behave and we provide support that puts safety, trust, and empowerment first. With compassion and respect, we walk alongside survivors, guided by the six core principles: ✨ Safety ✨ Trust ✨ Choice ✨ Collaboration ✨ Empowerment ✨ Cultural awareness Because healing should never cause more harm. 💜 #TraumaInformed #SurvivorSupport #AWRC #EndVAWG

Perpetrators often use survivors’ unstable immigration status to trap them in abusive relationships. Threatening to withdraw visa support or withhold an extension is a form of coercive control. No one should have their immigration status be used as a weapon against them. You are not alone. Support is available. 💜 Contact AWRC today by calling 020 8961 6549/5701 or email us at [email protected]. #EndingDomesticAbuse #EndVAWG #AWRC #Charity #LondonCharity #SupportWomen #BelieveSurvivors #LocalCharities #IntersectionalFeminism

Today, on what would have been Shafilea Ahmed’s 39th birthday, we remember her and all those whose lives have been taken by so-called ‘honour’. With an estimated 12–15 killings a year in the UK, honour-based abuse remains a hidden and deeply harmful issue. At AWRC, we’re working to tackle this through specialist training, advocacy, and awareness-raising, helping professionals across sectors respond with the care, skill and cultural sensitivity survivors deserve. awrc.org.uk/hp-idva-training We remember those we’ve lost and remain committed to building a future where these abuses no longer go unseen, unheard, or unchallenged. #DayOfMemory #EndHBA #HiddenHarms #ShafileaAhmed #AWRC

‘If he didn’t care, he wouldn’t get so angry.’ ‘He just wants me all to himself.’ ‘He checks my phone because he loves me.’ We’ve heard it all. These aren’t love stories. They are red flags wrapped in romantic propaganda. And we are unlearning what we’ve been told is normal. Because control, jealousy, and isolation aren’t signs of love—they’re warning signs. 📢 Comment and Share to support survivors and spark conversations. 🔍 Learn to spot the signs.
