Very good to see this when health & social care too often build on assumption that everyone has informal care
On this #InternationalDayfortheEradicationofPoverty, my new blog asks about the poverties we do not measure: of relationship, belonging, time, attention and care.
Perhaps #poverty is larger than we imagine. #EndPoverty #UNPovertyDay

The first contribution to our Spotlights On… LGBTQ+ Experiences series explores why LGBTQ+ older people may have concerns about receiving care at home, and why it’s important that social care providers and community services do more to build trust and confidence.

Very good news to see a champion for unpaid carers but please can we have a champion for #AWOCs so people without unpaid care are visible too. And BTW we are more likely to be/have been unpaid carers for our parents. @AWOCUK
Replying to @YvetteCooperMP
@YvetteCooperMP’s announcement to support a dedicated champion for unpaid carers is a significant step forward in ensuring carers’ voice are heard. We look forward to working with Government and the new champion. Read our statement: bit.pulse.ly/ucwlyusijb @Helen_M_Walker

Today, the government has announced plans to maintain the State Pension triple lock until 2030 before introducing a new system for how the State Pension increases each year.
Any replacement must provide robust protection for pensioners who rely on the State Pension to make ends meet.
With almost 16% of pensioners living in relative poverty, and more than a million people relying solely on the State Pension, the government must provide clear evidence that this alternative system will protect both current and future generations from poverty in later life.

It’s clear that the current system is failing too many older people.
We know that poverty in later life can have a serious impact on health and wellbeing. That’s why it’s essential that everyone receives the support they’re entitled to.
