I watch Dutch news and news shows regularly and I'm amazed at their ability to skirt the topic of climate change. News about weird weather all over the globe (incl. E/C Europe) and not a peep on the link with global warming. That's really odd for a country below sea level ...

Does anyone have a good source for the possible effects of diverging CO2 prices in ETS vs the new system for transport/buildings? #EconTwitter
Interesting: EU's bank-based financing system doesn't really use intangibles as collateral, so the supply of capital could be mismatched with demand from innovative companies. Increasingly important in a digital, knowledge-based economy.
Venture capital investment is 10 times larger in the US (in terms of GDP) than in the EU (average) (six times larger than the best-performing country DK). Who will lead the recovery if there is no risky capital to absorb it? New Generation EU fund? bit.ly/3ccUruA
Genuine curiosity: carbon/GHG taxes are often criticised for being regressive. Why wouldn’t a lower marginal labour tax (especially for lower incomes) compensate this? 1/

Why is this not choice not so clear or not so salient in the debate? Any theories? Is it only that changing effective marginal L taxes is legally/administratively complicated? 3/

Of course, subtle changes to marginal rates at different points in the distribution are not possible if you have a flat tax schedule and want to keep it that way. But to my knowledge, that’s mostly a problem in E Europe. 4/
I thoroughly enjoyed Stiglitz&Stern's paper on the social cost of carbon and integrated assessment models. It provides a great overview of the main assumptions in IAMs, then rebukes them one by one and argues for something close to scenario analysis. nber.org/papers/w28472

Wealthy people are more likely to earn higher returns on investments and not just high-risk ones. Research by IMF staff finds the rich also make more on conservative investments. Read more on why on #IMFBlog ow.ly/ndeH50Cypqe #ChartOfTheWeek

An overview of optimal tax theory, in a couple of slides :). My q to the twitter taxosphere: how do you explain (optimal) marginal distortions to non economists in an intuitive way? (income and substitution effects are not considered intuitive...)
