20 New Books To Be Launched on 7 October 2026 in Abuja Something had to be done to improve the overall quality of children's books being published in Nigeria. With funding from @EUinNigeria and support from @Sterling_Bankng, @bookbuzzNG embarked on the Nigerian Picture Book Project, with the goal of training 24 writers and 24 illustrators and producing 20 new high-quality, culturally relevant picture books for Nigerian children (aged 4–9). These books entertain, enrich and educate, and they remind Nigerian children that they too deserve to see themselves in the books they read. I had the honour of working with talented writers and illustrators from Nigeria's six geopolitical zones. I trained the writers for 12 weeks and edited their stories with my @OuidaBooks team. I am incredibly grateful to the @bookbuzzNG team for all their work. Creatively, I am indebted to #Slovenian #illustrator Maša P. Žmitek who worked me every step of the way. Special thanks to @Mimaster_Illo and @BoChildrensBook. I must also thank Dr Olaokun Soyinka for helping me make sure the important things i don’t like doing get done. Czech illustrator Květa Pacovská once said, "A picture book is the first art gallery a child visits." Nigerian children must not be denied this opportunity to access our stories, art, culture and history. It is their right. Please celebrate the superstars who made these books, and tag every primary school, parent and librarian you know. 😄
