Neal Jacques Harb joined AUB this fall, continuing a remarkable family legacy that spans three generations.
His maternal grandfather, the late Philippe Nasrallah (BA General ’46), was a chemist and a dedicated supporter of AUB. Together with Emily, he raised a family with strong ties to the university, with three of their children later graduating from AUB, including Neal’s mother, Mona.
Neal’s maternal grandmother, the late Emily Abi-Rashed Nasrallah (BA ’58), was an acclaimed novelist, journalist, educator, and women’s rights activist. Her distinguished literary career included numerous novels, children’s books, short story collections, and international honors, including the Goethe Medal and Lebanon’s National Cedar Medal of Honor, Commander Rank.
His father, Dr. Jacques Harb (Former Student 1984-89) is professor and dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Notre Dame University-Louaize (NDU). With more than 24 years of experience in teaching, research, and industry, he has built a distinguished career in civil and environmental engineering.
His mother, Dr. Mona Philippe Nasrallah (MD ’95), is a professor at AUB and head of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at AUBMC. An accomplished physician, educator, and researcher, she has published more than 40 peer-reviewed articles and received several awards, including the Gold Humanism Award in 2021.
Neal’s parents and grandparents are remarkable AUB alumni who reflect a deep commitment to education and to opening doors for others. Today, Neal carries their family legacy forward as he begins his own journey at AUB.
Welcome to the AUB family, Neal! We look forward to seeing you write your own chapter 💫

Established in 1874, AUB’s Lee Observatory was the first and oldest astronomical observatory in the modern Middle East, beginning a remarkable legacy of observation, scientific inquiry, and discovery at the university.
More than 150 years later, that legacy is being reimagined through AUB’s new School of Computing and Data Sciences, which will become, in the words of AUB President Fadlo Khuri, “a new observatory for our age,” this time turning its lens toward data, complex patterns, and new frontiers of knowledge.

Her grandfather, the late H.E. Nadim Dimechkie (BA Economics ’40, MA Economics ’55), was a distinguished Lebanese diplomat whose career spanned around 35 years. He served as Lebanon’sambassador to the United States and the United Kingdom, and in 1968, headed Lebanon’s delegation to the United Nations and served as vice president of the UN General Assembly.
His connection to AUB extended well beyond his years as a student. He served as president of the AUB Alumni Association, helped to lead major fundraising efforts for the university, and was awarded the AUB President’s Medal for Outstanding Voluntary Service in 2006.
Marya’s father, H.E. Ramez Nadim Dimechkie (BA Political Studies ’72), followed in his father’s footsteps in diplomacy and public service. He served as Lebanon’s ambassador to Germany and held several senior government positions. Most recently, in March 2025, he was appointed chairman of the Lebanese-Palestinian Dialogue Committee.

From Beirut to the world 🌍
For AUB alumnus and trustee Rabih Fakhreddine (BBA ’06) (@rabih_f), Beirut Habibi has been a labor of love.
Rabih initiated, championed, and sponsored this remarkable book, bringing Beirut’s rich history, culture, and creative spirit to an international audience through renowned publishing house Assouline.
He worked closely with Assouline at every step, from conception to publication.
Congratulations to Rabih on bringing this tribute to Beirut to life 💫
When we asked Dana Sobh (MEM ’18), president of the WAAAUB Alberta Chapter, why she chooses to serve her alma mater, she said: "AUB gave me more than an education. It gave me a community and helped shape who I am. I serve because giving back is my way of carrying that connection forward.” Dana, on behalf of WAAAUB, thank you for all that you do for your alma mater! @danasobh3 @waaaub.alberta #AUBProud #AUBAlumni
