Exploding parcels. Cut Baltic cables. A drone packed with explosives at Leipzig airport. Putin's shadow war is escalating, and NATO needs a firmer answer that stops short of full-scale war. Here's how: bloomberg.com/opinion/articl…

A toaster is a wedding gift. A private-island party paid for by a Putin-connected oligarch is something else. Republicans nearly wore out the subpoena machine investigating Hunter Biden’s foreign relationships. We should not unplug it now. ‘Trust us’ was not enough then, and it is not enough now.

Do you still believe EU accession is merit-based? It’s supposed to be merit-based, but if you analyze our case, sadly, it’s not even close, says 🇲🇰 Prime Minister @MickoskiHM. “We are at the same place where we were twenty-six years ago,” he tells @ACEurope’s @IlvaTare.

Today, @SenatorShaheen pushed the Trump Administration to not send mixed signals on Bosnian sovereignty: "Bosnia and Herzegovina's sovereignty must be respected. The U.S. must oppose efforts to destabilize the region and undermine its democratic institutions."

With House passage of the Lindsey Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026, House and Senate Republicans are placing maximum pressure on Vladimir Putin and the Russian war machine. This legislation strengthens economic sanctions against the Russian government, its financial institutions, and the foreign governments that aid Russian aggression against Ukraine by purchasing cheap Russian oil and gas and helping the Kremlin evade other sanctions. For too long, Putin has bankrolled this devastating war with money and resources from countries willing to look the other way, and today, that ends. This bill sends a powerful message of American unity and gives the Administration every tool in the toolbox to help bring this war to a just end, and we are proud to send it to the President’s desk.

Perhaps the diesel fuel problem is better addressed by pushing Russia to end the war it started.
.@POTUS: "Mr. Zelensky has to do one thing — he has to stop knocking out diesel fuel in Russia. Let him go after targets, but not diesel fuel... There are plenty of other targets. Don't hit diesel fuel."

A Russia-linked operation used ChatGPT to build a credible-looking research institute, complete with papers, an index, and real experts—including ones at CFR—who never agreed to be listed. Its posts earned little reach, but the infrastructure it created, using AI, shows the advancement of tech-powered influence operations, argues expert Jessica Brandt. "Broadly, the episode highlights the value of regular threat intelligence reporting from AI labs, which have unique insight into consequential activity that social media platforms and governments may not," she writes.

“I applaud the EU on this new package of sanctions against Russia. The U.S. should follow suit. Congress must act now to pass more stringent sanctions on Russia and force Putin to the negotiating table.” -@SenatorShaheen
We have agreed on the 21st sanctions package against Russia. It delivers sweeping measures targeting Moscow’s financial system, its military-industrial complex and energy sector, that keep Russia's war economy running. We are hitting Putin where it hurts most: cutting off the financial lifelines he relies on to sustain his war. This is not the end of the road on sanctions. We are already working on the next steps. The EU must be ready to respond to any further Russian escalation.
