So I guess bagger racing is now an actual thing? Missed the season, but I am intrigued.

We are henceforth expressing technical capability in imperial tonnes. Surely, this will help the common man understand the GRAVITY of the threat profile.
BREAKING: A California tech executive has been charged with conspiring to illegally supply more than 250 tons of U.S. networking and encryption technology to Iran's military and nuclear programs by routing shipments through the UAE over the past decade.

Year to year, funding dropped 40%. Between policy contributors; increased environmental regulation, carbon taxes, capital gains taxes, etc. And structural factors; ballooning real estate, crime, cancel culture... Olympia and Seattle have suppressed growth. It could be argued, they've prolonged our regional recession in every sector but social services. Government spending in response to the deaths of despair consequent to their own actions. You don't get to take credit for what happens despite your policies.

The owner of Tacoma grocery store fled to India after being indicted for food stamp fraud but has now been brought back to the U.S. to face the necessary consequences. The owner pocketed at least $600,000 in SNAP benefits for food items that were never sold. Those who commit fraud cannot escape accountability by running from their actions. This case is proof of that. justice.gov/usao-wdwa/pr/own…

America's elk, pronghorn and wild turkeys were brought back from the edge by men who wanted to eat them, and those men paid for it themselves. By 1900 the market hunters had all but emptied the country. Elk were down to about 41,000. Pronghorn were down to about 13,000. The wild turkey had gone from most of the states it once filled. In 1937 the sportsmen backed a law that took the federal tax on their rifles, shotguns and ammunition and handed it to the states for wildlife. This was the Pittman-Robertson Act. A congressman from Virginia added a clause that any state spending hunting licence money on anything else would lose its share. No conservation law in history has done more. There are now more than a million elk and about a million pronghorn, turkeys gobble in every state but Alaska, and the deer are on the lawns. To this day hunters and anglers pay for about 59% of what America's state wildlife agencies spend. The birdwatcher pays nothing. In the 1990s the agencies asked him to. A plan called Teaming With Wildlife proposed a tax of 5% or less on binoculars, birdseed, tents, backpacks and hiking boots, which would have cost the average buyer under $10 a year. The outdoor industry fought it, and it never found a single sponsor in Congress. The men who paid are getting old. In 1980 about 1 American in 15 bought a hunting licence. Now it is 1 in 21, and the average hunter stops buying one at about 65. Wisconsin's wildlife department has already warned of a $16m hole. The animals were saved by people who wanted them on the table. The people who only want to look at them were asked to chip in once, and said no.

Remarkable admission from CoreWeave co-founder that life insurers (i.e., private credit) is this bubble's dumbest money. As noted exactly a year ago, insurers will be this generation's "widows and orphans" after the wipeout

“Ilhan Omar has fled to Morocco”
🚨URGENT: Despite campaigning for re-election in the 2026 midterms, Ilhan Omar has not made a public or media appearance in over three weeks, having last been seen in the United States on September 22. On October 12, the Department of Justice conducted a raid on Ilhan Omar’s home in Washington, D.C., under a federal warrant. While her current husband, Tim Mynett, has been seen in and around the premises since the warrant was executed, Ilhan Omar herself has remained mysteriously absent. According to RRN, sources within the State Department suggest that Ilhan Omar has fled the United States for Morocco, which does not have a bilateral extradition treaty with the U.S. Follow: @MorseReport

Feels a little like what it must have felt like to evangelize the ancient pagans. “Ok, guys, prayer, good, yes. Dedicating local landmarks to the Blessed Mother, yep, still on track. NO. HAILEY, we DO NOT sacrifice to the SEA. Dammit! Nevermind. You know what, baby steps.”

The Flock saga is reaching truly chilling levels: when an Illinois college tried to cancel its contract and the company refused to take down its cameras, the college covered them. Then workers in unmarked vehicles repeatedly removed the coverings. theverge.com/tech/1009411/el…

This has been an ongoing joke at SHOT Show for years and especially lately. Lots of Asians who don't speak much if any English taking lots and lots of pictures of specific products at every angle, in all of the company booths you'd expect. Nobody ever says anything.
Warnings against foreign intelligence collection at tier one tech companies, a history. As I have said before, follow @JoshuaSteinman if you want to know the future a few years ahead of time.
