Donald Trump’s style of leadership embodies a remarkable paradox: the instincts of an absolute monarch, the ambitions of an emperor, and the powers of an elected president in a constitutional democracy that remains the economic and geopolitical superpower of the modern world. Ironically, a Democratic-controlled Congress could prove to be Trump’s greatest safeguard against his own strategic miscalculations. It could prevent a disastrous deal with Putin at the expense of Ukraine, Europe, and America’s global standing. Lifting sanctions on an aggressor simply to resume business as usual would no longer be a straightforward political transaction. This is precisely one of those rare occasions when the strongest political opposition becomes a president’s greatest protection against himself)

Elon is absolutely right. He’s just over 2,300 years late to democracy’s funeral. In 322 BC, Antipater replaced Athenian democracy with oligarchy. Ever since, oligarchy has proved remarkably resilient, especially when marketed as democracy. The original died. The brand lives on;))
This would be the end of democracy in America

Destroy the socialist regulation. Attract private capital into energy infrastructure and generation. Or keep humiliating citizens with £100 crumbs (<£20 a person) like tossing coins to a beggar on Piccadilly.

It is tragic that so many people still think the news is real
A coworker of mine who once called Elon a Nazi finally said he scheduled to test drive a Model Y yesterday after he learned that I own 2 of them and we talked for an hour about how much I love them and how good FSD is. I asked him how the demo drive went and he told me he cancelled it because he saw on the news how teslas have been hitting people and crashing into trees and houses and that he doesn’t trust that kind of technology. Unreal how fragile people are and how blindly they just believe legacy media.

Businesspeople vote with their feet, capital with its choice of jurisdiction, and technology with its choice of country! Voters, think about your own future and the future of your children—do not leave them as economic orphans!
California voters will decide next month whether roughly 250 billionaires in the state must pay a one-time tax on their riches. Mark Zuckerberg says he would need to sell Meta stock to pay the 5 percent tax on his assets under California’s voter measure. wapo.st/4BlLt7J

For big business and investment, there is no optimism yet…
THE UK FISCAL POSITION A WEEK BEFORE THE BUDGET. So we learned this morning inflation has jumped up, with the 1st Burnham-Healey Budget now a week away. But we also got the latest fiscal backdrop this morning. It’s not great. The government borrowed another £24.5bn in September — £1.8bn more than last Sept and £1.9bn above both the OBR's March forecast. In cash terms it's the second-highest Sept on record, behind only Covid year 2020. Year-to-date government borrowing is just shy of £98bn. That's over £4bn less than YTD 2025 but £6bn more than the OBR forecast. Why? Not because of a revenue shortfall. Tax receipts are £5.8bn ahead of forecast for the year so far (helped by inflation). At £90bn, September tax receipts were up 5.2% on a year earlier. Spending is the problem, especially debt interest, which was almost £11bn in September — UP 16.6% ON A YEAR AGO, £2bn above OBR forecast and the highest September since records began in 1997. Overall, YTD spending is almost £9bn above forecast. Debt interest accounts for £3.8bn of that and welfare benefits for £2.5bn. The Labour government’s two Achilles Heels. ALSO — net national debt has passed £3 trillion — 94.0% of GDP (over 100% on IMF measure, which allows for international comparisons). So the UK fiscal position is being undermined by inflation and debt interest. The latest OBR forecast, out with the Budget, will be driven by both these factors. Could make for some dismal reading.

GB Energy, the useless state-owned company established by Labour, has so far spent £14.2m on running costs — and £5.8m on investments. Running costs included the almost £400,000/year paid to its ineffective CEO and six executives on more than £100,000 each. What any of them has done to earn these sums is one of life’s mysteries. Perhaps it’s a blessing it’s invested so little. The £5.8m it has earmarked is for a proposed floating wind farm off the north coast of Scotland — a sure-fire loss-maker if ever there was one.

Elon does not invest in political parties or politicians; rather, he invests in the protection and predictability of the global IT business—even if that entails some temporary setbacks in the coming years. For the past twenty years, Elon has consistently invested in the future of humanity. He is someone you can trust!

Just as we regulate planes, cars, and medicines, we need safeguards that help us realize AI's incredible potential while reducing the risks. They won’t eliminate every harm, but they can help prevent misuse by bad actors. We’re not where we need to be yet—and this deserves much more of our attention.
Bill Gates warns of "grim possibilities if we don't maintain control" of AI and says “over the next year we’ll move beyond self-governance… It's clear we're not doing enough.”

A wonderful initiative! Ukraine has been proposing exactly this for months. Yet Moscow has consistently refused to commit, while continuing its brutal daily bombardment of Ukrainian cities and energy infrastructure. The problem has never been Ukraine’s willingness to stop-it has been Russia’s unwillingness to do the same…((

Unfortunately, this will do little to help Trump! By the time Russian diesel reaches the US market, the midterm elections will likely be over, with fuel prices still stubbornly high. For Ukraine, however, this may be good news. Diesel exported abroad is diesel that will not reach the Russian front lines, further aggravating the Russian army’s already serious fuel shortages. For Russia, the consequences could extend to the autumn harvest, with diesel shortages disrupting agricultural operations and pushing fuel prices higher. This, in turn, would drive up food prices not only for Russian consumers but potentially also for Russia’s international trading partners. Trump, as always, wanted to do Putin a little favour — but ended up throwing him under the bus without doing himself any favours either;))
Donald Trump agreed to buy diesel from Vladimir Putin after Volodymyr Zelensky ignored his requests to stop bombing Russian oil refineries, sources have said. Trump announced on Friday that Putin would “immediately supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel fuel to the American and global marketplace”, followed by another 1.5 million tons before the end of the year. 🔗: telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2…
