My new piece "Reproducibility: how to strengthen a weak foundation" is out today in @Nature! 🎉How reproducible is research in the social & behavioural sciences? A new study by Miske et al. assessed 600 papers across 62 journals: results are sobering

Are our ecological conclusions built on shaky foundations?
Our latest paper in @MethodsEcolEvol highlights that Risk of Bias assessment, crucial for ensuring the internal validity of research, is almost never used in #systematicreviews in eco & evo📉

Our survey reveals that most journals do not mention RoB assessments & that many researchers still confuse it with publication bias.
To fix this, we provide a clear roadmap to make RoB assessment Known, Easy, and Possible for the entire community 🏗️

🚨 Fifty years of research on "badges of status" in animals, and we still don't know if the hypothesis holds. In our new reply, we argue that the evidence is shakier than recently claimed.

New paper out in @journal_evo! 🎉
We use phylogenetic meta-analysis of variance to test stabilising selection & canalisation for wing length across 172 birds: migratory & aerial feeders show higher canalisation (~5–10% lower CV).

We hope future researchers study trait canalisation making use of the large datasets now available across species.

We must go further: redesign institutions, test causal interventions, and have national funders establish dedicated meta-research panels: an investment this field has long deserved.

Replying to @Nature
@Nature has published three groundbreaking papers on reproducibility, analytical robustness, and replicability across the social sciences. Sincere thanks are due to the many folks who contributed to these projects. It’s painstaking work, and a great service to social science.
