We're pleased to release a video recording of the "25 Years of Consciousness" public event at the @theASSC conference in New York City on June 23, 2023.

This event resolved a 1998 bet about the neural correlates of consciousness, and presented the first results of the @ArcCogitate adversarial collaboration testing two theories of consciousness, now published in @Nature at nature.com/articles/s41586-0….
The event features @heather_berlin, @De_dicto, @melanieboly, @davidchalmers42, @StanDehaene, @danieldennett, Christof Koch, Lucia Melloni, and @snaprud, with music from @theamygdaloid and @BabaBrinkman, all filmed superbly by @eyesteelfilm who are making a film on the topic.

Beta desynchronization (in motor cortex) seems to be under power of will, to correlate with conscious readiness to do a task (such as exact moment to bungie-jump), and to correlate with going ahead and doing the task. But, ramping up readiness potential is not under power of will nor does it indicate conscious readiness.

@OryanZacks and @DariaZakharova9 both gave superb talks in an excellent concurrent session (which I chaired) on animal and infant consciousness. The reporter from the Economist sat in the front row and asked many questions. No one talked about IIT in that session as I recall.

machine learning pioneer #yoshuabengio sets out to "make a dent in the hard problem" of consciousness, in his keynote talk at @ASSC26nyc: "sources of richness and ineffability for phenomenally conscious states". youtube.com/watch?v=ntVlZ5mp…
We've now posted a video of Yoshua Bengio's ASSC 26 keynote: “Sources of Richness and Ineffability for Phenomenally Conscious States”. Stay tuned as we post more of the conference videos!
