Twenty-seven years of records. Three different stairlift lists. None of them matched what residents actually had installed. Shawn Greenfield (Worthing Homes) gave one of ASCP26's most candid sessions, walking through how data inherited across five asset management systems contributed to a regulatory downgrade from G1 to G2, and what it took to rebuild trust in the numbers. His conclusion: confidence doesn't come from having more data. It comes from questioning it, verifying it, and being willing to say when something's wrong. If this got you thinking about your own data, don't let that feeling wear off. 100 tickets are still available for ASCP27 at 2026 pricing: zurl.co/PFpdg #DataQuality #Compliance #ASCP26

The ASCP brings together the people making safer homes happen. And our community is growing. We’re so pleased to have welcomed 17 new organisations already this year, each bringing their own experience, ideas and commitment to resident safety. More members means more people to learn from, more opportunities to share what works and a stronger collective voice to influence change. From helping a fellow member work through a tricky compliance question to making the case for better access for essential safety checks, that’s the strength of the ASCP: people who understand the challenges, working together to make things better. To our newest members, welcome. To everyone already contributing their knowledge, questions and ideas, thank you. You make this community what it is. There’s still time to join us this year and be part of what comes next. We’d love to welcome your organisation too. zurl.co/wiKl7 #ASCP #StrongerTogether #SaferHomes #SocialHousing #SafetyAndCompliance

Gas safety is increasingly being talked about as an asset decision, not just a routine service tick. Where it sits in your wider asset management and dilapidations planning matters as much as the servicing itself. One area that often gets missed in that planning is existing gas pipework, particularly in multi-occupancy buildings. Our Gas Pipework Risk Assessments course (incl. DSEAR) covers the risks, the regulations and the duties, with real case studies rather than just theory. Building competence more widely across your team? It sits alongside our Level 2 Award in Gas Safety Awareness and Level 4 Certificate in Gas Safety Management. Course: zurl.co/GyYk0 #GasSafety #SocialHousing #HousingCompliance #AssetManagement

Most decisions made at emergency incidents are intuitive, not analytical. That single insight, drawn from Dr Sabrina Cohen-Hatton's own research, went on to transform firefighter training. Her ASCP26 session traced an extraordinary path: homeless at 15 in Newport, night school to a PhD in psychology, now Chief Fire Officer of West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service. Her message on psychological safety: it isn't about making work comfortable. It's about creating an environment where people can speak honestly, hear difficult messages, and take the reasonable risks that make learning possible. #Leadership #Resilience #ASCP26

There are two doors between a safety risk and the action needed to resolve it: the front door of a home, and the door to organisational authority. Opening ASCP26, our CEO Matt Sharp set out why an unanswered knock leaves the truth unknown, and why unresolved cases can hide behind strong headline compliance figures. Failed access alone could cost the sector around £1 billion over four years. Inspections suggest over 200,000 social homes may contain gas installations classified as At Risk or Immediately Dangerous, and more than 90,000 a C1 electrical danger. Those are the ones inspectors could reach. "Open the front door. Open the boardroom door. Let safety through." This is exactly what our Access for Safety campaign exists to fix. Can the most junior member of staff stop work on safety grounds, confident the organisation will back them? Lord Victor Adebowale's question cuts straight to culture. Drawing on his own childhood in social housing and a career spanning housing, health, social care and the House of Lords, Victor challenged delegates to see the leadership role they already play, and to make sure frontline knowledge reaches the people with the power to act. His advice when concerns go unheard: keep going, find allies, and tell the truth upwards, early and in writing. #Leadership #ASCP26

Repairs in one system. Contractor activity in another. Hazards and evidence somewhere else entirely. Petar Georgiev, from Opuz, explored how AI agents could connect the dots compliance teams are currently joining by hand, flagging outstanding risks and recurring issues across systems that don't talk to each other. His caveat mattered as much as the pitch: an agent can recommend a next step, but it can't hold professional responsibility. The value is in freeing skilled people to focus on investigation and resident communication, not replacing them. With thanks to SMS Environmental and Opuz for being our headline Exhibition sponsor. #AI #Compliance #ASCP26

A blocked vent or a faulty closure plate can turn a refuse chute into a route for smoke through an entire high-rise. Charles White, our conference headline sponsor HydroChute, shared incident footage showing how common the fault still is in older social housing, then the encouraging part: many fixes are neither difficult nor expensive. Reinstating a roof vent can cost a few hundred pounds. His advice to landlords, having surveyed over 100 systems: don't write an ageing chute off before checking what it actually needs. #FireSafety #RefuseChutes #ASCP26

Over 50% of tradespeople in a recent UK industry study consider themselves neurodivergent. Compliance teams need to know what that means for how they communicate. Pippa Smith, from Red Kite Community Housing, drew on her own diagnoses of dyslexia, dyspraxia and autism to explore how executive function and sensory processing shape the way residents respond to safety communication, and how easily that gets mistaken for poor behaviour. Around 10% of her electrically heated homes still present access problems for annual gas checks, something that eases once residents understand why the visit matters. Her fix isn't complicated: clear layouts, flexible appointments and letting residents explain their preferences. Safer homes start with communication residents can actually use. #Neurodiversity #BuildingSafety #ASCP26
