Other monopoly exchanges that are cheap are Japan $8697 and Brazil $BOLSY $B3SA3; The croupier framing is why I Iike Int. exchanges. "Exchanges beat their local market" matters most where the local market is bad...the exchange gets paid on the volatility that's hurting everyone else. If/when Flavio wins 10/25, Brazil could have an amazing run
My @MicroCapClub Club Conversation with James Davolos from @HorizonKinetics is now live! We discussed $ICE, $CBOE, $CME, and we did a deep dive on $MIAX. James Davolos is a portfolio manager at Horizon Kinetics, where he has spent nearly 21 years studying exchanges and what the firm calls croupier businesses. These are companies that earn fees on trading volume without putting their own capital at risk. One of his first projects at the firm was the New York Stock Exchange’s reverse merger into Archipelago, and his team later bought exchange seats ahead of demutualizations at the CBOE, the Minneapolis Grain Exchange, and others. In this episode, James explains why exchanges have outperformed their local markets over 20 years, why derivatives are the strongest moat in the industry and why inflation and volatility work in exchanges’ favor. He also breaks down $MIAX: how it took close to 17% of the multi-listed options market, whether perpetual futures threaten the business and what the Bloomberg futures bet could be worth. The conversation closes with James’s reflections on Horizon Kinetics founder Murray Stahl. $XP and $BOLSY outran $NU on Monday and that makes sense. Reforms lift all Brazilian financials, but lower rates and foreign capital coming back mostly benefit the businesses that earn on activity: exchange volumes, brokerage flows, issuance. Those are operating levers.
Brazil on Monday - the day after Bolsonaro's stronger-than-expected showing in the first round vote - got $2 bn in foreign inflows into its stock market. That's a 10 standard deviation inflow compared to history. HUGE. Brazil is coming in from the cold... robinjbrooks.substack.com/p/…

How valuable is $FPH's Candlestick project going to be when it hits the market in the next couple of years...There is literally no project this size and Candlestick has the best location as compared to "California Forever" which is outside of SF and stuck in regulatory purgatory
