Thanks to the NCSU Entomology Club for inviting us to join them this week. We had a great time sharing some of the work we do in our lab.

Long-term sampling in tropical urban streams- Last summer we made another team effort to complete one more sampling event in our long-term monitoring of urban streams in Puerto Rico. Also collected snails for a different project. There are lots of Thiaridae in our urban streams!

A field day with our techs in Puerto Rico. Prieta stream is our long-term study site, where we are working on understanding stream ecosystem’s responses to hurricane and drought disturbance.

The impact of low and high flows on native and non-native stream fishes in Puerto Rico. Sharing our latest publication, led by Bonnie Myers, on how fish respond to flow extremes: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…

Bug Fest 2024 🐞🕷️🐛🐜🪲🦟 This past Saturday we were at Bug Fest, the biggest arthropod festival in the country! Thanks to everyone that stopped by to say hi to our lab and our aquatic insects! #bugfest2024

Bug IDing at La Selva - We have accumulated a lot of samples in our long-term project in Costa Rica. It will take several days and plenty of coffee to complete the task, but we are getting there ... poco a poco. BTW- insects are stained with pink, not the natural color.

La Selva Research Station - our project was started by Dr. Cathy Pringle, UGA, in 1986 ... 38 years of studies in tropical stream ecology! It's always great to come back even if just to bring supplies and carry samples back! #StreamsLaSelva

Sharing pics of what tropical storm #Ernesto did to our study stream in #PuertoRico. Tree falls, lots of litter, and a major flood, but only minor damages. We lost some baskets and had to repair our flow reduction experiment. Nothing that cannot be fixed. #StreamFRE @NCStateAEC

What a day of field work looks like for or grad student Vamery / @vamerygonzalez / and her crew in our urban streams in Puerto Rico! #tropicalstreams @NCStateAEC

Thanks to our REUs and mentors for another great summer program. Time to say goodbye! #ElVerde_REU @NCStateAEC

El Verde REU Research Symposium 2024 The symposium marked the end of a productive summer. Lots of great presentations, proud of our REU students. #ElVerde_REU #NSF_REU
