At the #ICDRR “Financing Drought Risk in Africa: Where Do We Need to Go?” session, @Ngabitsinze stressed the urgency to tackle Africa's data limitations, optimise early warning systems & secure sustainable finance for the continent and for ARC towards scaling our reach and impact
Opening the ICDRR, H.E @daniel_cha38684, Mozambican President, stressed how "without effective risk management, economic, social & environmental progress remains vulnerable to the growing impacts of disasters.” He called for stronger continental cooperation in resilience building
H.E. @MosesVilakati, AU Commissioner (ARBE), urged governments & partners to move from commitments to implementation. With limited time remaining to achieve the Sendai Framework’s goals, he emphasised the need for strong governance and strategic investment ahead of disasters
Pointing to the anticipated El Niño in 2026/27, Dr @JudithDah, Deputy Executive Secretary, stressed the urgency to strengthen Africa's disaster preparedness, and encouraged ARC to develop catastrophe bonds and collaborate @AfDB_Group to expand resilience financing options

INGD Board Chairperson, Ms Luísa Celma Meque, drew on Mozambique’s experience, stressing that preparedness must be proactive. No single institution can address threats alone. Building resilience requires stronger coordination, collective responsibility and proactive investment.
