Quick Announcement!
I've started a substack! Won't change any of the threads I do on here, just allows me to post some longer thoughts I have and go more in-depth than a tweet allows for
It's completely free to subscribe and I already have something on NYK/MIA up. Link below
Went through some data and film in the opener. In this one we look at Philly's cross-match tactic that played out through many kinds of possessions (Post Up, P&R etc).
Game one delivered takeaways as valuable as any you’ll find in this season

Ugly game but nothing to overreact to. Thought OG and Bridges played extremely poorly. Brunson missed some looks he usually makes but thought he had too many no-pass possessions. Not a fan of the aggressive defensive coverage to close the game out
Before those two 3s from OG and Jose, Knicks had just 16 assists with 8 of those coming from Drummond and Shamet combined. Not a recipe for success. Need more sprays and transition opportunities like the last two possessions
Just a gross quarter. Bad shots and turnovers, partly because Philly mixing up coverages. Starters have not looked particularly good tonight
Some real sloppy play here. Missed FTs, turnovers, and fouls. Knicks offense hasn't really got into a consistent flow outside of the bench mins
Drummond's been a monster on the glass and I appreciate the screens he's been setting for the Knick guards. Been a real problem for Philly
Very excited to have Knicks basketball back especially coming off a special title run. Will be awesome to see the banner raised and all the guys get their rings
Genuinely sucks to see Mitch go. Doesn’t get enough credit for the ways he developed into the player he is now. Will be so weird to see him in a Celtics jersey
Free agent center Mitchell Robinson has agreed to a three-year, $47.4 million deal to sign with the Boston Celtics, with a player option in third season, sources tell ESPN. Robinson departs the Knicks after serving a key role on the historic championship team.
Showed real signs of being a productive player last year. Has a lot of talent and with his combination of size and skill he has the potential to be a big part of the Knicks rotation going forward. Excited to see him continue to develop
Restricted free agent Mohamed Diawara intends to sign a multiyear, $10-plus million deal to return to the New York Knicks, sources tell ESPN. Diawara -- the No. 51 pick in last year's NBA draft -- was part of the champion Knicks after spending the season on a standard contract.

Last sentence is the real thing, and it’s why coach commentary is usually in such stark contrast to broad sentiment
trying to figure out how to make things work as players and coaches, instead of doing the reflexive roster shuffling, is where basketball’s genius lies
Replying to @APachecoNBA
Brunson has regularly put up playoff numbers that put him in conversations with Michael Jordan. To say he wasn’t capable of leading a team is just trying to take shortcuts in your analysis. You don’t win by fitting players in boxes, you win maximizing who they are
Never engaged in the Brunson 1A conversations because they were always ridiculous to me. He showed he was that from his first playoff run with NY, specifically in that Miami series. If you want to know if a guy is a 1A, look at how opposing defenses guard him
I’ve thought about what a Knicks championship would feel like since I started watching basketball. Such a surreal feeling and this entire playoff run has created so many memories that’ll stick forever. Loved everything about this team and they truly deserved this and earned it
