The Constitution mentions "the right to vote" five times. @Profepps: So if our courts treat the ballot as less than a fundamental right, they aren't reading that in the Constitution, but projecting it onto the Constitution. tinyurl.com/yyv6h764

In Opinion Tom Hanks asks in a guest essay: "How different would perspectives be had we all been taught about Tulsa in 1921, even as early as the fifth grade? Today, I find the omission tragic, an opportunity missed, a teachable moment squandered." nyti.ms/3gcjE90

See how well your county communicated key election details in 2020. [Follow link to Google Doc.] I love meaningful student research & data collection! Thanks @UHPoliticalSci & @bjrottinghaus. #Voting #txed
A provision of #SB7 #txlege requires updated election information for county websites. An investigation by our UH Election Lab undergraduate research team found many counties didn't report key 2020 election details. uh.edu/class/political-scien…

I applaud @ErinForYall for giving @RepMaryGonzalez credit for being THE person who found the POO. First time I read that bit of info. Big thanks to ALL involved!
Replying to @ErinForYall
Big thanks to @RepMaryGonzalez who found the point of order and unfortunately was unable to be on the floor to call it. This type of point usually kills a bill, but the Senate did use an unusual parliamentary move to keep the bill alive, and it is on its way to the Governor.

🧵 So let’s talk about what happened HB 3979, the “critical race theory” bill yesterday. I put it in quotes because no one behind this legislation seems to know what critical race theory is. Yesterday, @jamestalarico and I argued a point of order that sent it back the Senate.

Great 'Explainer' piece about how #SB7 will affect #Texas voters and election officials. Also includes a THREAD that updates the bill's progression throughout the day. #txlege #VoterSuppression

Six GOP Senators voted for #January6thCommission. Thanks for putting country over party. @SenBillCassidy (LA) @SenSusanCollins (ME) @lisamurkowski (AK) @SenRobPortman (OH) @SenatorRomney (UT) @SenSasse (NE)
Six Republicans voted for the commission. Others said explicitly, on video, on the record, that the effort to establish facts about the worst attack on the Capitol in US history would interfere with Republicans' 2022 election plans. npr.org/2021/05/28/100052489…
54 Senators voted for the #January6thCommission, and 35 voted against it. The minority of votes won. This is not democracy. #AbolishTheFilibuster

Let me get this straight. When the threat of harm comes from outside our nation politicians clamor to investigate it. When the threat is home grown & lives within our own borders we are supposed to..... ignore it ? Our democracy is in so much trouble. – at Los Angeles, CA

Just asked McConnell if he was working his members hard to vote against Jan. 6 commission bill, and he said: “I’ve made my position pretty clear.” He didn’t respond when I asked if he would meet with Brian Sicknick’s mother

Hundreds have died and they’re making us pay. Unbelievable. #txlege
In response to February’s massive electricity outages, Texas lawmakers are considering legislation that would add charges to most Texans’ power bills to cover companies’ financial losses during the winter storm. Here’s the latest: bit.ly/3oRccUU

Posted 12 days before winning PGA Championship by @PhilMickelson. All about the MINDSET!
I’ve failed many times in my life and career and because of this I’ve learned a lot. Instead of feeling defeated countless times, I’ve used it as fuel to drive me to work harder. So today, join me in accepting our failures. Let’s use them to motivate us to work even harder.
Love it!
While you guys were busy on the golf course, I was busy fielding Mom’s “nervous texts”.😂 @PhilMickelson @goodwalkspoiled
