A lesson on how to treat teachers:
Trust trained teachers to meet the needs of the students in front of us.
Don’t create punitive systems for teachers who are not effective and apply to all teachers. This holds our best teachers back.
Be nice.
Thanks for attending my TED Talk. – at Atlanta, GA
I sometimes forget that I have a twitter where I can post random things and then I remember so I post something random.
I’m watching @MadMen_AMC again for the 1178th time and it’s so comforting to me and I love that I need these people in my life on at least a weekly basis. I need them.

(My first tweet since March.) I had an amazing day discussing the existential nature of Frost’s poems in one class and then the strange and bizarre life of Mary Shelley in another. Overall, it’s been a banner day. #lovemyjob #literatureislife
Yesterday, after 16 days in ICU, my father lost his life to COVID. Please pray for my family and please #WearAMask
This week I lost the person, besides my mother, that had the most profound influence on me. He was a teacher, mentor, father figure, and friend. The best human I have ever known. So many lives have been impacted by his life and his passing. #RestInPower #eldermastergarrymullins

I'm not into public shaming but shame on districts who are making teachers teach both f2f and virtually (just put a camera in your room and record for students at home - what's the big deal?). These are two separate jobs. Students deserve better. Teachers deserve better.

Relaxing this morning in preparation for another week of prepping for my students to return on the 25th. Teachers at my school are quitting, retiring early, taking transfers to online because they fear for their lives. Let that sink in.

Everyone I talk to seems to be concerned about their kids falling behind in math and science, but based on how people are behaving, I think we should be concerned about us falling behind in the humanities. So teach good literature, teach history, teach art, and teach philosophy – at Atlanta, GA

Wow! “Disappointed at school responses to COVID-19”! Reflect on this: The U.S. Secretary of Education has never taught 1 day in a classroom, has NEVER led 1 school or district, but is the chief of ALL school districts in our country. How would she know what she doesn’t know?

So the backbone of the economy falls on schools opening yet teaching remains a low paying profession. Someone help me understand this paradox. – at Ooltewah, TN
