What if investing in Africa’s future starts before a child takes their first steps?
The session "NURTURING AFRICA'S FUTURE: INVESTING IN EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT THROUGH PRIMARY HEALTH CARE AND MULTISECTORAL ACTIONS" at #APHCF2026 spotlighted the importance of early childhood development and the role of Primary Health Care in supporting children during their most formative years.
Because healthier beginnings can lead to stronger futures.

The future of primary health care will not be built by innovation alone. It will be built by solutions that are tested in real-world settings, strengthened by evidence, and designed to reach every community.
That was the central message of the Africa Primary Health Care Forum (@APHCF_info) 2026, held in Abuja under the theme: "Frontiers in PHC: Technology, NCDs, Nutrition, and Sustainable Financing for Resilience."
The forum brought together policymakers, researchers, implementers, and development partners from across Africa to exchange ideas and practical solutions for building stronger, more resilient primary health care systems.
SCIDaR was proud to contribute to these conversations through a series of oral and abstract presentations that showcased implementation evidence, innovation, and lessons from our work across the continent.
One of the highlights of the forum was the presentation of SCIDaR's Portfolio of Lessons Learned (PoLL) by Dr. Eric Aigbogun, Associate Principal at SCIDaR. Rather than focusing only on successes, the presentation drew from years of implementation experience to share what worked, the challenges encountered, and the lessons that continue to shape how we design and deliver health programmes. Using examples from projects implemented in last-mile communities, the session demonstrated how implementation evidence can improve programme design, strengthen decision-making, and support more sustainable health interventions.
Our project leads also shared practical experiences from implementing programmes in underserved communities, providing evidence-informed recommendations grounded in the realities of delivering interventions in complex and resource-constrained settings. Their presentations reinforced an important message. Lasting impact begins with solutions that are responsive to community needs.
Another notable presentation featured Paul James, Associate at SCIDaR, who showcased the eCAT tool, an innovative geospatial solution developed to address settlement mapping challenges during polio vaccination campaigns in Nigeria. By generating accurate geospatial data, eCAT enables health authorities to verify vaccination coverage, identify missed settlements, and make more informed decisions to improve campaign quality and accountability.
Beyond the presentations, APHCF 2026 served as a valuable platform for learning, collaboration, and knowledge exchange. The discussions reaffirmed that strengthening primary health care requires more than new technologies or policies. It demands partnerships, implementation science, continuous learning, and a commitment to translating evidence into action.
As Africa continues to redefine the frontiers of primary health care, SCIDaR remains committed to generating evidence, advancing innovation, and working alongside governments and partners to build resilient health systems that leave no community behind.

From Burden to Budget.
Hypertension and other non-communicable diseases are placing an increasing burden on health systems across Africa.
At APHCF 2026, the session “From Burden to Budget: Financing Hypertension and Other Non-Communicable Diseases Through Primary Health Care in Africa” brought attention to a critical question:
How do we turn the growing NCD burden into sustained investment in prevention, treatment, and stronger Primary Health Care?
The conversation is an important step toward building health systems that can respond to the realities of Africa's changing health landscape.

This future is not a dream.
The science exists.
The technology exists.
The evidence exists.
The institutions exist.
The talent exists.
The partnerships exist.
The only remaining question is whether our collective ambition is equal to the opportunity before us.
