On September 22, APF partnered with the A G O Foundation for a convening in New York on the sidelines of #UNGA81, bringing together leaders across philanthropy, business, government, and civil society to explore what it will take to invest meaningfully in Africa’s next generation. With Africa projected to have the world’s largest youth population by 2050, the conversation focused on the capital, partnerships, institutions, and long-term investments needed to ensure young people are not simply beneficiaries, but active shapers of Africa’s future. The future of Africa is young. The time to invest in it is now. #APF #AfricanPhilanthropy #AGOFoundation #InvestingInAfrica #AfricaNextGeneration #UNGA81

We are pleased to be part of the global community behind @CharitiesAidFoundation’s World Giving Report 2026: Charity Insights. The report shows that while 56% of charities consider the sector in their country to be healthy, funding remains a key challenge for eight in ten. It also finds that 92% believe funders could do more to support them beyond providing money. The findings offer charities, funders, and policymakers an opportunity to listen, learn, and work together to strengthen the conditions in which civil society can thrive. Trust is one of the missing links between African philanthropy and the development sector. When funders can find organisations they trust, and local organisations can connect with funders who understand their work, we can move closer to a stronger ecosystem of African philanthropy. How can we do more to build trust between African philanthropists and locally led organisations? Africa is not simply a recipient of generosity. It is home to deeply rooted cultures of giving that are shaping the way the world understands philanthropy. African philanthropy challenges the idea that generosity is primarily a product of wealth. Across the continent, people are giving through income, time, faith, local organizations, informal support, and community action. The opportunity now is to recognize, strengthen, and invest in these existing cultures of giving. How can we better recognize and strengthen Africa’s own traditions and systems of generosity? #AfricanPhilanthropy #CommunityPhilanthropy #AfricanGiving #KnowledgeSharing #APF

Giving is not defined by age. It is shaped by values, priorities and a willingness to make a difference. This offers an interesting perspective on how we understand philanthropy across generations. Younger adults are not only participating in giving, they are contributing a significant share of their income to causes they care about. #AfricanPhilanthropy #CAFReport #APF #NextGenPhilanthropy

Can Africa’s own resources play a greater role in financing its development? As external financing becomes more uncertain, there is a growing need to look inward and explore how Africa can mobilise its own domestic resources for long-term development. Brookings highlights opportunities ranging from strengthening tax systems and addressing illicit financial flows to better leveraging natural resource wealth, sovereign wealth funds, and other domestic sources of capital. For those working across philanthropy and development, this raises an important question: how can African resources be mobilised and invested in ways that strengthen local economies, create opportunities, and support more self-determined development?
