How does a Calvinist know he’s saved?
The same way the anti-Calvinist knows they’re saved.

My assurance isn’t found in figuring out God’s secret decree. I look to Christ, trust His promises, see the fruit of His grace—and the Holy Spirit bears witness that I belong to Him.
You must not talk to too many Calvinist.
Since the @Cardinals will most likely not be in the playoffs, we have to acknowledge the job these guys did. In a rebuild year they have been in the playoff race most of the season. With an even competent bullpen they’re in easily. The future is looking good for the Birds on the Bat.

The Calvinist and the anti-Calvinist can both say, “God is sovereign.” The real question is: What does sovereign mean?
The Calvinist understands divine sovereignty to mean that God eternally purposes and providentially governs all things, including the free and responsible actions of human beings, without becoming the author of sin or eliminating human accountability.
The anti-Calvinist often affirms sovereignty while insisting that libertarian human freedom must remain outside God’s determining decree. God may foresee man’s choices, respond to them, permit them, and incorporate them into His plan—but He cannot sovereignly determine them without supposedly destroying genuine human responsibility.
Scripture presents something stronger:
“The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.” —Proverbs 16:9
“The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the LORD; He turns it wherever He will.” —Proverbs 21:1
“Our God is in the heavens; He does whatever He pleases.” —Psalm 115:3
“He does according to His will among the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay His hand.” —Daniel 4:35
God even sovereignly ordained the most wicked human act in history—the crucifixion of Christ—while holding those who committed it morally responsible:
“This Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed.” —Acts 2:23
Herod, Pilate, the Gentiles, and Israel did “whatever Your hand and Your plan had predestined to take place.” —Acts 4:27–28
And Paul summarizes the doctrine plainly: God “works all things according to the counsel of His will.” —Ephesians 1:11
That is the Calvinistic doctrine of sovereignty: man genuinely wills, chooses, acts, and remains accountable—yet God’s eternal purpose stands behind and over the entire course of history.
God does not merely foresee history and react accordingly. He is Lord over history.
“The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of His heart to all generations.” —Psalm 33:11
I mean is it tone deaf? For sure…but evil? I doubt it. Netflix (like most companies) schedule their posts weeks in advance and no one even thought about this one. At least I hope that’s the case.

You're essentially using the problem of evil that atheists use against God and applying it to election. There are plenty of horrible things that could happen to that child, even as a child. You could say God created you knowing you were going to starve to death, knowing you were going to suffer abuse, or knowing you were going to suffer any number of other evils.
And the same distinction needs to be made with reprobation. God’s decree isn't what makes someone sinful or causes them to be in a state of reprobation. He doesn't take an innocent person and make them wicked so that He can then condemn them. He chooses to leave some in the sinful state they are already in. Their sin is the reason they are condemned, not some evil that God puts into them by His decree or forces them to commit against their will.
So you're taking the same problem-of-evil argument atheists use and applying it to eternal destinies. “How could God create this person knowing what was going to happen to them?” But that doesn't actually establish anything against Calvinism. You still have to show why God leaving someone in their sinful state and judging them for their sin is unjust. You can't just point to the horrible outcome and assume that God's decree is what caused the person to be sinful in the first place.

God's revealed will: for all of creation, embodied in His law.
God's decretive will: known to Him, revealed in the unfolding of time itself.
God says in His revealed will: thou shalt not kill.
God decrees the death of Christ to bring about redemption itself in His decretive will.
You can ignore it, mock it...call it "lunacy" like D'Souza...but it is right there, and only those intent upon utterly embarrassing themselves in their prideful ignorance miss it.

I really wanted to stay out of this, but @dalepartridge is using a form of biblical taxonomy to smuggle racial hierarchy into Scripture and I can’t be silent any longer.
The Bible recognizes nations, tribes, peoples, and ethnic distinctions. It does not classify human beings like dog breeds. Some bred up, others bred down, some superior, others inferior.
That isn’t biblical anthropology.
That’s the logic of eugenics draped with a Bible verse.
Scripture starts somewhere radically different:
One Creator.
One image.
One human family.
God “made from one man every nation of mankind.” -Acts 17:26
Nations? Yes.
Ethnic distinctions? Of course.
Different breeds or tiers of humanity? No.
And this is where Christians should understand the seriousness of what’s happening, because Dale is not alone in doing this.
When you baptize racial hierarchy in biblical language, you don’t make racism Christian.
You make Christianity look racist.
Paul warned about exactly this kind of scandal:
“The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.” -Romans 2:24
The watching world doesn’t need Christians inventing racial hierarchies and calling them biblical.
It needs Christians courageous enough to let the Bible correct their own.
If Scripture is your authority, let it be your authority even when it demolishes your taxonomy.

One thing in this recent debate against Calvinism has never quite added up for me.. it's the way people sometimes talk about coming to faith as though the decisive difference was simply that one person "believed" while another didn't.
People say things like "I had faith" or "I believed" as though that faith was something they were naturally capable of producing on their own. But when I look at what Scripture says about the human heart apart from grace, that seems impossible to reconcile.
The Bible is clear that people naturally resist the light because it exposes our sin. Jesus said the world would hate His followers because they belong to Him. Paul says unbelievers suppress the truth in unrighteousness. Our natural response to the gospel isn't openness; it's resistance and outright hate (John 3:19-20; Romans 1; John 15:18-19).
So when someone encounters a Christian living as salt and light and is actually drawn to Christ rather than repelled by Him, or when the gospel lands and their heart softens instead of hardening, what explains that? It can't simply be our unchanged nature; our nature is wholly against that. It is fully clear that God has to be at work first... giving a new heart, granting repentance, and enabling the faith by which we trust Him.
"Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God" (1 John 5:1). The new birth isn't the result of our faith, it's what makes that faith possible. And that doesn't diminish the reality of our believing at all. If anything, it makes grace even more amazing.
