NIGERIA HAS LOST A PATRIOT PAR EXCELLENCE - BAMIDELE I am deeply shocked and saddened by the passing of Pa Reuben Fasoranti, CFR, the foremost leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere. The late centenarian was a patriot par excellence, a statesman of uncommon integrity who consistently placed national interest far above personal or sectional considerations. As an educationist, school administrator and community leader, Baba Fasoranti impacted generations of Nigerians and left an indelible mark on our national development trajectory. The entire Yoruba race and Nigeria at large will continue to remember Pa Fasoranti for his principled stand, selflessness, and unflinching commitment to true federalism, unity and progress of our nation. He was one of the last surviving Awoists, a vital bridge between the politics of the First Republic and the Fourth Republic, and a custodian of the progressive ideals bequeathed to us by Chief Obafemi Awolowo. His wise counsel, moral authority and stabilising voice will be sorely missed at this critical period in our national life. On behalf of my family, constituents and the Senate, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Fasoranti family, the people of Ondo State, Afenifere and the entire Yoruba nation. May his soul find eternal rest and may God grant us all the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, CON, Leader of the Senate, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

When FG sent money to Oyo state government over the Bodija explosion, Makinde or any of his aides did not let the public know. They kept mute until Fayose went on air and told the world that N50bn was released by the federal government to the Oyo state government. The government of Oyo state denied receiving a kobo from the central government. They dared Fayose to prove his claim. Fayose presented a proof. And then the Oyo state government said that FG actually paid the state but it was N30bn, not N50bn. That is a whole government of a state refusing to announce the receipt of a fund and still denied receiving it until an evidence was presented. Now, the governor of that same state said that he wants to be president of Nigeria. No problem. The Constitution permits it. After all, Atiku is also contesting. But Makinde is asking for a release of N250bn from the federal government before election commences. He said that it’s the NLNG dividend. Okay. No problem. But will he or his aides voluntarily tell the people of Oyo state that they received fund from federal government if it is released or will they have to wait until Fayose exposes them again? Please ignore the attached picture. It’s one man who escaped from Yaba left that did it. — Agba man

It is no longer that we want money. Apparently, we are now auditioning for political appointments. I could say the same for you whenever I see you support your candidate. I did not support His excellency Peter Obi in 2023, despite all the brouhaha. And I had my reasons. I was in the PDP, a member of the Atiku Presidential Campaign Council, and I also ran for election in 2022 under the same party. Some of you declared a fatwa on people like me because you failed to force me into abandoning the only political party I had known since I became old enough to vote. Of course, that didn’t work. The Labour Party, the party you destroyed friendships over, has since become defunct because, las las, na the same people. Imagine if I had allowed myself to be cowered due to public opinion. I saw His excellency Mr Peter obi yesterday. He has a perchance for operating as a lone ranger, without adequately co-opting the stakeholders and the people who matter during these dialogues. His team should do themselves a favour and work on their public appearances. One person was wearing a cap that made him look like an Aluta student. His eyes kept darting everywhere, as though he was running from something. These are the people who flank your presidential candidate everyday. It was comical to watch. You must think a presidential race is a joke. Politics is not activism. This is real business. Even if the Waziri of Adamawa and His excellency, pres .Tinubu were not on the ballot, I still will not choose Mr Peter Obi. No amount of emotional blackmail, will make me change my stance. And I do not need to posture for anybody. There is something called the power of choice. You get to choose. And I choose not to. And guess what? I will sleep soundly at night. You have no respect for other people's candidates. You demean, insult and tear them down, yet somehow expect me to respect yours and agree with everything he does simply because you have anointed him your messiah. Who told you that? Some of you are dense. I don't remember Anambra turning into Dubai under his leadership. Globally, the economy is dealing with everyone, although some people are bearing the brunt more than others. Still, I refuse to be someone who constantly demarkets Nigeria. Your candidate, who struggles with communication skills, does enough of that himself every single time he opens his mouth. Nigeria will be fine. Regardless of our imperfect circumstances, I choose to keep faith while demanding accountability where it matters. This government has many credible policies. Yes, it also got some things wrong. But we are a work in progress. And there's no perfect system. I will continue to keep faith. Finally, if you're here thinking that I need you to like me, then there is something horribly wrong with your stupefied brain. The day I start needing validation from Facebook people who have no bearing on my past, present or future will be the day I k1ll myself. So what makes you think that you, a faceless member of a mob hiding behind a keypad, matter to someone like me? You have left no footprints to show how you have contributed to changing the world, for good or bad. Yet you presume to lecture me, someone who has spent her entire life working in spaces your mothers and wives wouldn't even dare to enter...in spaces where you would be expected to kneel as a man. I have spent my entire life standing on my feet, holding sway and trusting the process of my journey...surviving things that would've drowned many. Who are you again? In this election, I have made my choice. And there is absolutely nothing you can do about it except rant. So rant away, while I donate more buckets for your tears. Freedom of choice is one of the pillars to democracy. Remember that! ~~ VIVIAN EMESARAONY

ADO EKITI | Friday 16th October, 2026. I stood with deep gratitude and joy as my darling husband, His Excellency, Mr @biodunaoyebanji, and his dependable Deputy, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, were sworn in for a new term of service to the good people of Ekiti State. As First Lady, it is a profound honour to witness this historic moment. An inauguration is more than a ceremony. It is a renewed covenant with our people and a reaffirmation of our collective aspirations. I have seen firsthand the sacrifices, consultations and hard work that go into leading our dear state. To my husband, your humility, inclusive leadership and unwavering commitment continue to inspire me. Congratulations, my love. May God grant you greater wisdom, strength and good health to fulfil your promises. To our amiable Deputy Governor, Chief Monisade Afuye, congratulations on this renewed mandate. Your loyalty and steadfastness remain commendable. To the good people of Ekiti State, thank you for your trust, prayers and belief in the BAO administration. Your confidence is a responsibility we do not take for granted. I also sincerely appreciate the leaders and members of our great party, the APC, for their support, guidance and sacrifice. Your commitment made this day possible. As Mother of the State, I remain committed to complementing my husband’s efforts through initiatives in education, women’s empowerment, healthcare and the welfare of the vulnerable. The journey continues, and the best days of Ekiti State are still ahead of us. God bless Ekiti State. God bless our people.

ECONOMIC WATCH: Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele says investors and the international community expect President Bola Tinubu’s possible re-election in 2027 to bring continuity in Nigeria’s economic reforms. Oyedele spoke alongside CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso at a press briefing during the 2026 IMF/World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Thailand. He said investors were concerned about whether political pressure ahead of the election could lead to a reversal of the government’s policies. “The markets and the international community have been pricing in the prospect of a second term for the President, and they expect continuity in the reforms,” he said. Oyedele insisted the reforms were aimed at stabilising the economy rather than helping Tinubu secure another term. He warned that reversing them could trigger capital flight and put renewed pressure on the naira. “There will be no return to fuel subsidies or multiple exchange rates,” he declared. He also clarified that NNPC Retail’s petrol discount was a commercial decision and did not mean the government had restored fuel subsidies. On economic growth, Oyedele said Nigeria was targeting 7 per cent growth, identifying food, energy and logistics costs as major obstacles to expansion. He added that the government wanted inflation to fall to low single digits, creating room for lower interest rates and more affordable credit for businesses. The minister further disclosed that Nigeria had presented 65 investment projects worth $78.5 billion to prospective investors across sectors including agriculture, mining, energy, transport, healthcare and industry. However, he stressed that the success of the reforms should ultimately be measured by their impact on ordinary Nigerians. “Stability is earned, and growth is a task,” he said, adding that economic progress must translate into jobs, business expansion and improved living conditions. His remarks come amid continuing debate over Tinubu’s economic policies and their impact on Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general election.
