We had so much fun exploring engineering with professors and students! 👷🏼♀️🏎️🏗️
Last Friday we had an amazing whirlwind of a visit from Academy of Exploration @AOESPS - 136 students rotated through 6 stations to complement their unit on engineering. We thoroughly enjoyed hosting these great students and their teachers and chaperones!
ALT Dr. Jeffery Thomas taught a session about bridges
ALT Dr. Theresa Odun-Ayo explained how the Engineering Program here at MSU works
ALT Dr. Pierson shows off the "indoor river"
ALT IEEE Students showing off some electromechanical experiments!
AOE takes @NSTA! ⚜️
A great way to end our time at the National Science Teaching Association fall national conference was to present on major unit projects and student choice.
Bonus: we had a current and a former AOE student with us via Zoom to share as well!

Science on a Saturday?!?!?! 🥼🧪👩🔬
AOE Students rocked our FIRST Science Olympiad competion @MissouriState
They competed in toothpick towers, water filtration, leaf ID, egg drop, and estimania. We took home several awards and had a blast! @officialSPS #STEM
Our major unit project is a 60 second commercial to showcase the non-profit organizations we’ve been working with for the last few weeks. Today, we got advice from expert Mr. Jim of Plotline Film (another @CityofSgf non-profit!) on how to make the best videos! 🎬💻
@officialSPS
Our Engage unit has us engaging with our community in new-to-AOE ways and we are having a blast!
Today, two groups visited DCO and @rescueone_sgf for the 2nd time to do service projects. Weeding, sanitizing shared spaces & play equipment were on the agenda for DCO.
@officialSPS
Our @rescueone_sgf group bagged outreach food to help pet owners in the community continue to feed their pets when times are tough.
Using the design process, students were tasked with creating a device to launch a marshmallow as far as possible. After the first test, students made improvements & tested again. After they found success, we tried launching progressively larger marshmallows.
Today = testing day!
We’re so excited for this grant!!!!!!!!!
More cooking and baking this year!
Today @mrsschifsky was awarded a classroom grant from the Missouri Retired Teachers Foundation. Students will now have more materials and resources to enhance their culinary experiences at @AOESPS. Congrats!!!! @officialSPS

DAY 1 at @AOESPS had a bit of everything. From teaching library classes in the kitchen, to offering support to students in their STEM challenge, to a Walmart run for supplies - it was a blast.
Today we completed our first STEM challenge of the year: Wicked Water Slide! 💦🛝
We failed! Spectacularly! And we loved every moment of it!
Our Lego mini-figs made it down the slides, some a little more safely than others 😮💨
@officialSPS
First day ✅
We spent today getting to know each other and building our community!
Students got to conquer some STEM challenges, problem solve, and practice alternative ways to communicate!

Clifford visited today and we each got a brand new @Scholastic book!
Clifford hitting the griddy on his way out made us lose our minds, though 🤯
