Would you know I had pneumonia, a heart condition, Stage IV head and neck cancer and I'm 4 weeks out of major abdominal surgery? Appearances don't tell you the whole story. You can see how someone looks, but you can't always see what it takes for them to keep going.

I want to be honest about how we’ve got to a place where British billpayers are paying some of the highest energy costs in Europe. Over the past 40 years, we’ve given up control of our necessities, outsourced our essentials and privatised the basics. Water, transport, housing. And of course, energy. Now the public are paying the price. We haven’t invested in the infrastructure we need. Conflict overseas has pushed up energy costs and it’s hurting our businesses and families. That’s why we need to take back greater control of our energy system. This week, I announced Great British Grid, which will speed up connections and push down bills. We’re also giving mayors, local leaders and communities a stronger role. With funding for People’s Power projects, communities will be able to build solar panels on libraries and town halls, hydro schemes in rivers or publicly owned windfarms on local land. But it’s not just energy we need stronger public control over. It’s also water, housing, transport and care. So we’re repealing the ban on public ownership of water companies. We’re building more council homes than this country has seen since the end of World War Two. We’re reforming the leasehold system so families aren’t squeezed for every penny. And we’re opening up home ownership for first time buyers who can’t rely on the bank of mum and dad. This week I also announced my determination to introduce a National Care Service, to put people above profit and to give pensioners peace of mind. Together, we’ll rewire the country from top to bottom so that it works for all people in all places. That is the only way to put Britain back on the right path. It’s the only way to put power back in people’s hands. And it’s the only way we will bring hope again.

My parents loved him. Mum watched this on Youtube every evening and sang, especially Marguerita, her name. I loved his words, politics, mockery. Class act #sparrow #mighty #calypso
He was legendary and « mighty ». The #MightySparrow passed away. #RIP

Everyone asks "how do we afford PIP?" Nobody asks "why does disability cost so much?" A grab rail: £8 at Screwfix. £85 through a mobility company. Adapted cutlery: £12 to manufacture. £35 in the catalogue. A shower seat: £15 plastic stool. £90 as a "shower aid." A postural chair: £200 to build. £800 with "disability" on the label. Disability costs more because the market CHARGES more. Not because it COSTS more. The word "adapted" on the box adds 300-500% to the price. PIP exists to cover the "extra cost of disability." But the extra cost is ARTIFICIAL. Created by manufacturers who know you NEED the product and price accordingly. Fix the price. Sell aids at cost. Remove the markup. Remove the VAT. Remove the glossy catalogue and the sales rep's commission. The "extra cost of disability" drops by 60-80%. PIP spending falls. Without cutting a single person's support. Helen Whately has posted thirteen times asking how to cut PIP. She has never once asked why disability products cost five times what they should. builduk.club disability charter. Fix the price. Not the person.

I have never seen such a blatant double standard in my life. In 2018, when 12 young Thai football players and their coach were trapped in a cave in Thailand, the world did not say, “They are not our citizens.” Britain sent some of its best cave divers. Australia sent doctors and rescue experts. The United States sent more than 40 military personnel and equipment. Countries came together and worked with the Thai authorities to get those children out. And they did as clear in the video below. They saved all 13 of them. Tonight, in Gaza, people woke up to the screams and cries of children, women, and elderly people after a six-story building known as the “Al-Saada” building collapsed. Nearly 100 people were sheltering inside. Dozens of tents surrounded the building. Many of those trapped under the rubble are children. They are still under the rubble. So where are the international rescue teams? Why aren't neighboring Arab countries sending rescue teams? Why aren't Western countries sending specialized teams to save whoever can still be saved? My heart aches for my people in Gaza :(

This summer Britain burnt. 3000 people died from the heat. Yet this Government is drilling for more gas, despite scientist warnings & knowing that it won't make a difference to bills in the UK. We need to double down on renewables, not bend to the wishes of fossil fuel bosses.
