What would make you walk away from a successful career to take a chance on an industry you knew almost nothing about?
In 2003, Rosette Rugamba (@rcrugamba) left British Airways to lead Rwanda’s tourism sector at a time when its future was far from certain.
She went on to help transform Rwanda’s tourism industry, introduce Kwita Izina, and build her own company, Songa Africa (@SongaAfrica).
On this week’s episode of The Long Form Podcast, we explore her remarkable journey, the risks she took, and the vision that helped put Rwanda on the global tourism map.
And we ask: What did she see in Rwanda’s tourism industry in 2003 that the rest of the world couldn’t see?

Africa is indeed too divided but we keep hiding it and pretending like we are United. I made a post congratulating the President of Rwanda @PaulKagame and Rwanda for the great achievement of winning the Grand Prix Formula 1 hosting bid in 2030 and some people are angry and mad about it.

We’re living today in the past of people whose future will one day be their present. They’ll either thank or curse us for the path we paved for them. Let’s give our best to Rwanda, for the Rwandans we may never know, but who deserve the best simply because they are Rwandans.🇷🇼

Breakfast overlooking the tea fields, then perhaps a quiet moment around the fire later.
This is exactly what we wanted Icyayi to feel like like connected to the landscape, relaxed and distinctly Rwandan.@visitrwanda_now @AmakoroSLK

This week, we welcomed a new group of entrepreneurs into our Topify program, marking the beginning of a two-year journey of growth, learning and transformation with BPN Rwanda.
Implemented in partnership with the @MastercardFdn, Topify supports high-growth SMEs to scale their businesses effectively and sustainably.
As the entrepreneurs begin this journey, one important message stood out: business growth is not only about scaling revenues, markets and operations, but also about bringing people along with you.
Entrepreneurs were encouraged to think intentionally about the jobs they create and how business growth can translate into more dignified, inclusive and fulfilling employment opportunities for their teams.
We are excited to walk alongside this group over the next two years as they strengthen their businesses, grow their impact and create better opportunities for others.

Around 155–156 AD, St. Polycarp, when threatened with death if he would deny Christ, answered:
“Eighty-six years I have served Him, and He has done me no wrong. How then can I blaspheme my King who saved me?"
May God grant us unshakable faith in every trial.
