The AMSG Ministerial & CEO Roundtable in Cairo marked another step in the Group’s continuing effort to move Africa’s minerals agenda from dialogue towards practical cooperation, investment and implementation. Its central message was clear: “The future of Africa’s minerals will not be defined by what we extract, but by what we build, what we finance and what we secure together.” AMSG will continue to engage Member States, industry, investors, financial institutions and strategic partners around the development of competitive, integrated and investable mineral value chains capable of creating sustainable economic value for Africa. From Exploration to Markets. From Resources to Value. From Dialogue to Action.

Following the Third AMSG High-Level Roundtable in New York, the conversation continued in Cairo, Egypt, with another high-level gathering focused on one of Africa's most consequential questions: How do we transform geological potential into competitive, investable mineral value chains; and connect them to global markets? On 27 September 2026, the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) convened its Ministerial & CEO Roundtable as part of the official programme of the Egypt Mining Forum 2026. Under the theme: “From Exploration to Markets” Ministers, CEOs, investors, Development Finance Institutions, sovereign wealth funds and strategic partners came together for an action-oriented dialogue on: Geological Data. Mineral Value Chains. Responsible Sourcing. Long-Term Supply Chain Security. The discussion was structured around three Strategic Assurance Pillars: 🔹 Development Assurance: building the geological intelligence, infrastructure, processing capacity, technology and skills required to create value. 🔹 Policy Assurance: creating the regulatory certainty, responsible sourcing frameworks, regional cooperation and market access needed to strengthen confidence. 🔹 Financial Assurance: mobilising the long-term capital, off-take financing, blended finance and strategic partnerships required to make Africa's mineral projects bankable. The Cairo conversation reinforced a central principle: Africa's mineral future will be determined not simply by what the continent possesses, but by what it builds, finances and secures together.

FROM RESOURCES TO WEALTH | A MESSAGE THAT RESONATES BEYOND THE ROUNDTABLE The conversation did not end when the doors of the Third AMSG High-Level Roundtable on Critical Minerals Development in Africa closed in New York. It continued onto the global stage. In his address to the 81st United Nations General Assembly, Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.E. Kashim Shettima, GCON, articulated a vision that closely echoes the central ambition of the Roundtable: Africa must move beyond the export of raw materials and capture greater value through industrialisation, manufacturing, technology and regional economic integration. Speaking on Africa's economic future, the Vice President highlighted the transformative potential of the African Continental Free Trade Area to strengthen regional value chains, expand intra-African trade, promote industrialisation and attract investment. He also called attention to the importance of innovative financing, including private capital, blended finance, South-South cooperation and strategic partnerships; approaches that sit firmly within the AMSG agenda for financing Africa's mineral future. And perhaps most importantly, he stated: “Our abundant natural resources must become engines of shared prosperity rather than sources of perpetual dependency.” That message speaks directly to the question at the heart of the Third AMSG High-Level Roundtable: How does Africa move FROM RESOURCES TO WEALTH? The answer requires more than extraction. It requires value addition. Regional value chains. Industrialisation. Technology and knowledge. Innovative financing. Continental cooperation. The Third AMSG High-Level Roundtable brought these priorities together in New York under one strategic agenda: Mineral Value Addition, Data Sovereignty, Innovative Financing and Critical Minerals Security. From the Roundtable to the UN General Assembly, the message is increasingly clear: Africa's mineral wealth must become a foundation for African industrial capacity, African value creation and shared African prosperity.

Today, the countdown reaches its final moment before the Third AMSG High-Level Roundtable on Critical Minerals Development in Africa. In three days, on 21 September 2026, African Heads of State, Ministers, senior government officials, development finance institutions, investors, industry leaders, technology experts, regional institutions and strategic partners will gather in New York, on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly. Not simply to discuss what Africa has, but to confront what Africa can build with what it has. Africa possesses vast mineral resources that are increasingly important to the global economy, but resources alone do not create prosperity. Capital must be mobilised. Value chains must be built. Geological intelligence must be strengthened. Industrial capacity must grow. Strategic partnerships must be forged. African interests must be reflected in the future of global supply chains. That is why the conversation in New York matters. FOUR STRATEGIC PRIORITIES. ONE CONTINENTAL AGENDA. 01 | MINERAL VALUE ADDITION Moving beyond extraction towards processing, downstream industries and regional value chains. 02 | DATA SOVEREIGNTY Strengthening Africa's geological intelligence, exploration capacity and ownership of critical mineral data. 03 | INNOVATIVE FINANCING Mobilising the capital and partnerships required to move critical-minerals projects from potential to implementation. 04 | CRITICAL MINERALS SECURITY Strengthening economic security, industrial competitiveness and resilient supply chains. And around the table will be African leadership and global strategic stakeholders whose decisions, partnerships and perspectives will help shape the conversation. From Presidents and Ministers to investors, DFIs, industry leaders, technology companies and regional institutions, the Roundtable brings together the different pieces required to address a challenge that no single government, institution or industry can solve alone.

We are honoured to announce the participation of: H.E. Fatima Haram Acyl, Minister of Petroleum, Mines, and Geology, Republic of Chad, in the Third AMSG High-Level Roundtable on Critical Minerals Development in Africa. Her participation brings an important perspective from the Sahel and Central Africa to a high-level conversation on how African countries can strengthen resource governance, attract strategic investment and translate natural-resource potential into broader economic development. As global demand for critical minerals accelerates, Africa must look beyond extraction and focus on building value, resilience and industrial capacity around its mineral resources. The strategic question is: How do we move from Africa's resource potential to Africa's economic wealth?

The global race for critical minerals is accelerating. Just this week, renewed international attention on Kenya's rare-earth and niobium potential has highlighted a critical shift in Africa's minerals landscape: the conversation is increasingly moving beyond extraction toward local processing, value addition and participation in global supply chains. This is precisely the conversation Africa must own. The continent possesses significant critical-mineral resources. But the opportunity is not simply to supply minerals to a world hungry for them. The opportunity is to build with them. To develop processing capacity. To create competitive industries. To attract strategic investment. To strengthen regional value chains. To create jobs and economic opportunity. And ultimately, to ensure that a greater share of the value generated from Africa's resources remains on the continent. This is why the Third AMSG High-Level Roundtable on Critical Minerals Development in Africa matters. In 11 days, African political leaders, investors, development finance institutions, industry leaders and strategic partners will gather in New York to advance this conversation under one defining theme: FROM RESOURCES TO WEALTH The Roundtable will focus on four strategic priorities: Mineral Value Addition Data Sovereignty Innovative Financing Critical Minerals Security The question is no longer whether Africa has the resources. The question is what Africa will build with them. 📅 21 September 2026 📍 New York, United States of America 🌐 On the sidelines of UNGA81 🔐 High-Level Strategic Dialogue | By Invitation Only reuters.com/world/africa/us-…

Africa's critical minerals future will not be shaped by resources alone, but will also depend on the quality of geological knowledge, data, technology and intelligence available to identify, understand and responsibly develop those resources. The Third AMSG High-Level Roundtable on Critical Minerals Development in Africa will bring together African political leadership, investors, development finance institutions, technology leaders and industry stakeholders to advance a more coordinated approach to the continent's critical-minerals opportunity. Among the distinguished voices contributing to this strategic conversation is: Andrés Blanco Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Xcalibur Smart Mapping. Before Africa can fully develop its mineral wealth, it must first know what it has, understand where it is, and build the intelligence required to make informed strategic decisions. This is why Data Sovereignty stands alongside Mineral Value Addition, Innovative Financing and Critical Minerals Security as one of the four strategic priorities of the Third AMSG High-Level Roundtable. Under the theme: FROM RESOURCES TO WEALTH The Roundtable will explore how Africa can strengthen its position across the critical-minerals value chain and play a more strategic role in the global minerals economy.
