There can be no democracy without freedom of assembly. Georgians should be able to support whichever party they see fit. Political pluralism is essential to a healthy democracy.

The Constitutional Court of Georgia will hold hearings on the banning of political parties on October 21, 22, and 23.
Georgian opposition leader @Zuraja @GIRCHIMF detained at the airport in Türkiye, on his way to the Renew Europe leaders summit in Brussels.
Pressure on the 🇬🇪 opposition is tightening.
Full solidarity with Zurab and all Georgians fighting for freedom & democracy.
We're concerned to learn that @Zuraja, leader of ALDE member party @GIRCHIMF has been detained at the airport in Turkey, held in a cell with his passport and luggage confiscated and will be sent back to Georgia tomorrow. He was transiting en route to Brussels where he was invited and was due to participate in the @RenewEurope Leaders’ Summit.
We regret that he will not be able to participate and lament that such pressures continue to be placed on the work and movements of opposition parties who seek a pro-European and democratic future for their country.
Cork County Councillor Gillian Coughlan @fiannafailparty was unanimously elected as the new President of the Renew Europe Group in the European Committee of the Regions @RenewEuropeCoR . Congratulations !

We never communicate what we will do next in our operations. Last night, we did not attack any energy facilities on the territory of Russia because President Trump said that there would be an energy ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia. We did not attack, while Russia attacked our gas stations, energy infrastructure, and other facilities.
I think it was Putin’s answer to President Trump. And the message from Russia was very clear – they don't know anything about the energy ceasefire. It's a pity, because they always find reasons not to stop this war. Which is why I think we need more pressure on Russia.
From an interview with Fox News.

You can’t hear a word of what I’m saying in this video because this is the sound of the energy ceasefire. Power out - generators on. #Ukraine survives and lives.

Russian strikes killed over 80 Ukrainian civilians in two days. Moreover, it has stepped up its hybrid attacks against Europe, both EU Member States and NATO Allies.
Suspending sanctions on Russian diesel provides Moscow with more revenues to wage war.
This is not the time to ease pressure on Russia, and Europe won’t.
On Monday, EU Foreign Ministers intend to approve the biggest set of sanctions listings targeting Russia’s war machine since the start of the war.

Another interesting number to enquirer about: how much diesel does the #US EXPORT. As far as I know, USA has always been a major diesel exporter, covering its own internal needs and selling the surplus. So what happened now?
I’ll tell you what happened. The BIG BEAUTIFUL DEAL is a BIG BEAUTIFUL SCAM. All to keep #putin happy and bombing.
Since 1950s the USA has almost NEVER imported diesel. America always had more than enough to cover its own consumption. It sold an average of 1.2-1.6 million barrels A DAY of surplus diesel on global markets. And in 2026 the US is still selling abroad. 1.5 million barrels/day to be exact. To Europe and Latin America.
On the rare occasion when the US did have to import, it did so from #Canada. This was a logistically logical historical arrangement benefiting North-Western States. Delivery of Canadian diesel across the border was cheaper than transporting it up all the way from the US Gulf Coast.
BUT in September 2026 the TRUMP TARIFFS come into effect. Suddenly the 50% tariffs added aggressive price premiums to Canadian imports and caused a significant decline in normal cross-border logistical fuel deliveries.
Could this diesel market disturbance been avoided? YES
Would it have saved US from having to import from #russia? YES
Would more Ukrainians have had to die for this? NO
But Trump chose a different route.
Diesel import from #russia is a choice, not a need for the USA.
300K barrels makes no difference for an economy that consumes 5.3 million barrels a day. 500K barrels from russia will be an equally insignificant drop in the ocean of the US market. Even 4 million barrels spread over TWO YEARS will not make the pump prices drop for American truck drivers and farmers.
WHAT difference does the russia diesel import make and for WHOM?
1) putin. He gets extra cash for his war machine to keep going.
Most importantly, he gets the US to send the signal globally that sanctions against russia can be eased. After all the US eased them, so others can now follow suit. This means more cash for russia to be killing more Ukrainians.
2) Trump. He gets to stay friends with putin AND continue making money of daily US diesel exports (especially now that global diesel prices are high). All while talking about saving the American farmer and truck driver.
3) Americans. Will not get lower diesel prices and will not get more diesel (not that they don’t have enough of what is produced in-country).
4) Ukrainians. Will suffer more attacks from russia, who was going to intensifying the bombing campaign anyway, but now will do so even more emboldened by the USA.
5) President @ZelenskyyUa and Ukrainian military will need to carry out more attacks on rusdisn oil sector. Without patriots and US support, it’s the only way for the Ukrainian president to protect the people.

The Trump–Putin diesel deal reminds me of Putin’s Sputnik vaccine sales during COVID, only worse. The Russians are selling something they cannot deliver, and even if they could, it wouldn’t solve the problem. This time, the US is also betraying everything it has stood for throughout its history: liberty, human dignity, and loyalty. And all for an imagined benefit. A sad day for the free world, or what’s left of it.

At the @UniofOxford AI and Human Rights Summit, I shared my perspective on where AI governance stands and where the critical gaps remain:
🔹 Limits of regional regulation: While instruments like the EU AI Act, DSA, and Council of Europe Framework Convention set essential benchmarks, regulation inside Europe alone isn't enough when key global actors, defence/security uses, and tech giants operate outside these boundaries.
🔹 The oversight challenge: Rapid tech developments, like recursive self-improvement, threaten fundamental oversight principles. Can transparency and human oversight even be possible with such models?
🔹 Bridging ethics and human rights in tech: Many tech leaders buy into "safety" or "ethics" rather than formal human rights frameworks. We must bridge this vocabulary gap and ensure human rights is central to AI governance. We need to engage with industry standardisation to ensure public values are embedded into technical frameworks.
🔹 Scaling capacity across all bodies: Every oversight institution, from national bodies to international monitoring entities, must urgently build in-house AI expertise and secure proper resourcing. Have we embraced the scale of the challenge? The scalability issue is also about making sure we have the right human in the room.
🔹 Multi-disciplinary, global dialogue is essential: We need tech leaders, ethicists, governments, lawyers, faith representatives and civil society at the same table tackling foundational questions about human autonomy and identity.
🔹 Addressing critical gaps: AI oversight must apply to the impact of AI on the environment, and to the AI race for energy and resources

Outrageous.
After more than 20 years in Georgia, liberal foundation @FNFreiheit has been forced to close its Tbilisi office.
As our President @svenja_hahn makes clear, the Georgian Dream regime is shutting the door on Europe piece by piece.
The EU must respond.
