Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: "This morning, there was a serious security incident on a flight from Dubai to Israel. Almost all the passengers on the flight were Israelis. During the flight, as they approached the country, one of the pilots stabbed the second pilot, and apparently tried to crash the plane with everyone on board. I spoke with one of the Israeli passengers. He told me that the plane went into a spin and began to dive. He told me that, somehow or other, he managed to break into the cockpit with one of the crew members, and that together they neutralized the stabbing pilot while he was trying to sabotage the plane's systems. Another flight crew on board entered the cockpit and managed to stabilize the plane. I salute these heroes, who displayed exceptional resourcefulness and courage. They saved many lives. They prevented a huge disaster. The plane landed safely at Tabuk Airport in Saudi Arabia. All passengers are out of danger. The stabbing pilot was arrested and is currently being interrogated by the Saudi authorities. We are maintaining constant communication with the relevant authorities to ensure the ongoing well-being of the passengers and their safe return home. I have instructed the security services to prepare for additional potential threats. We are holding ongoing situation assessments, and we will update you as the situation develops."

I come from a generation that remembers when hijacking civilian aircraft became a weapon of Middle Eastern terrorism. We defeated much of that era. Today’s terrifying incident aboard @flydubai Flight FZ1073 is a reminder that the ideology behind it has not entirely disappeared. This flight itself represents something worth defending: Israelis flying openly from an Arab-Muslim to a Jewish state because the #UAE chose normalization, tourism, commerce and a different future for the Middle East. Those who target Israelis because they are Israelis are attacking more than Jewish lives. They are attacking the moderate Arabs and Muslims who have rejected permanent conflict and chosen shared prosperity instead. That ideology must be confronted wherever it appears, starting with Jews and Arabs—Saudis, Emiratis, and Israelis—joining hands to defeat this hatred. Thank you to the pilot, the crew, and the brave Israeli passengers who refused to let terror decide how this incident ended.

I am horrified by what happened aboard @flydubai Flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv. My thoughts are with everyone aboard, especially the injured pilot and the passengers who had to live through those terrifying moments. Salute to the pilot, the crew, and the Israeli passengers who saved the plane. The #UAE has gone a long way in rejecting the politics of hatred and building a different relationship with Israelis. #SaudiArabia, where the plane landed safely, now finds itself helping care for passengers caught in an attack apparently aimed at destroying exactly that kind of regional normalcy. As we await the full facts, one lesson is already familiar: when an ideology teaches people to see Israeli civilians simply as legitimate targets, it does not stop with Israel. It threatens every Arab and Muslim society trying to build a Middle East based on travel, trade, prosperity and coexistence rather than permanent war. Thank you to the pilot, his crew, and the courageous Israeli passengers who helped regain control and spared the world a tragedy we cannot afford.

Here is why the West and Arab partners should support the Prime Minister of Israel as he delivers his important address at the UN General Assembly shortly: Israel is confronting Iranian terror networks that threaten far more than Israelis. Israel is helping European and Arab partners in technology, intelligence, and operations to confront many of the same threats. Governments can disagree with Israel on policy. But isolating Israel at the UN while benefiting from the security capabilities it brings to the region sends the wrong message. Israel is carrying part of a burden shared by the West and moderate Arab states. That deserves recognition today. Support @IsraeliPM @Netanyhau today.

Praying for Neria Leiter, son of Israel's Ambassador to the United States @yechielleiter, who was severely wounded today in a terrorist attack. The Leiter family already made the ultimate sacrifice when Neria's older brother, Maj. Moshe Leiter, fell fighting terrorists in Gaza in 2023. We pray for the full recovery of Neria and stand with the entire Leiter family.

We appreciate @VP @JDVance making an important point about the #US-#Israel relationship: strong alliances are built on shared interests, mutual contribution and the ability to speak candidly when friends disagree. At the same time, singling out Israel while making that broader point was unfortunate. Saying American Middle East policy should not be “subservient to the State of Israel” was unfortunate. American foreign policy should be subservient to no country, and singling out Israel risks obscuring the broader principle the Vice President himself was making: the United States should judge its relationships according to American interests and what its partners bring to them. On that standard, Israel has a strong case. As Vice President Vance noted, Israel is an important US partner in intelligence sharing and military technology. Its contributions to American security extend well beyond those areas. Israel brings operational experience, defense innovation, cyber and technological capabilities, intelligence reach, missile-defense cooperation, and experience confronting threats that also affect American interests and partners across the Middle East. That is also the more serious way to define what being pro-Israel means in an America First foreign policy. It does not mean automatic agreement with every decision of an Israeli government. It means recognizing that sovereign allies can disagree while still producing substantial strategic value for one another. The strongest case for the U.S.-Israel relationship is not that America owes Israel something. It is that Israel is a capable partner that brings substantial strategic value to the United States. That case is strong enough to withstand disagreement. In fact, mature alliances should be able to. Israel is the kind of ally America should want: one that shares the burden and brings real, tangible value to the alliance.

The #Iran-backed Houthi offensive is exposing a strategic gap the region can no longer afford. #Saudi energy infrastructure has been attacked. The Houthis are advancing toward the Bab al-Mandab. #Pakistan and #Turkey are now being tested under the new Mecca defense pact. And #Israel could reportedly offer or has offered to join a regional effort against the Houthis if invited. This is exactly why we have argued that Arab-Muslim security cooperation against Iran should include Israel. The countries confronting the same threats should not wait for the next crisis to discover that their interests already align. Israel should be part of the emerging regional security architecture. #Israel can help #SaudiArabia and the Mecca Pact states counter the #Iran-backed Houthi threat. The opportunity is larger than #Yemen: connect the region’s capable partners before Iran and its proxies exploit the gaps between them.

Twenty five years ago today, an ordinary Tuesday became the deadliest day of terror on American soil. Nearly 3,000 people were killed by al Qaeda terrorists. Commuters, office workers, travelers, and the first responders who climbed the stairs everyone else was descending. Remembrance alone is not enough. It asks something of us: to name the evil of terrorism plainly wherever it returns, and to refuse it the silence it depends on. The American Jewish Congress will always stand against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. We will always remember.

American Jewish Congress Rejects and Condemns the Coordinated Sanctions Targeting Israel As Jews prepare to welcome Rosh Hashanah, many behind synagogue doors now guarded as routine, twelve foreign ministries decided the week's most pressing task was to sanction the Jewish state. The American Jewish Congress regards the announcement by the United Kingdom, France, Canada and nine other governments of their intention to restrict trade with Israeli communities in the West Bank as theater mistaken for statecraft. It will not disarm Hamas, calm a single acre of the West Bank, or bring one Palestinian or Israeli family closer to peace. Even those cheering it concede the trade impact is negligible. We have seen this show before. A year ago, as the United Nations General Assembly convened, several of these same governments recognized "the State of Palestine." As we said then, it changed nothing on the ground and helped no Palestinian. Here is the sequel, staged again as this year's Assembly opens its doors. The timing is no accident: these measures land seven weeks before Israel's election and represent an attempt to sway another democracy's vote while playing to domestic audiences in the sanctioning countries. Violence against Palestinian civilians is real and must be prosecuted, as Israel's own courts do. But reserving this special zeal for the world's only Jewish state, while graver abuses elsewhere pass in silence, in a season when Jews worldwide are counting security guards rather than blessings, has a name, and it is not diplomacy. The way out is not a boycott. It is seriousness: back the American peace effort to disarm Hamas, pressure the Palestinian Authority to reform, press every party rather than one, and invest in Palestinian livelihoods instead of legislating them away, since the very factories on today's blacklist employ Palestinians.

Peru is thousands of miles from the Strait of Hormuz. Yet Lima has concluded that Iran's repression at home, disruption of global trade, regional escalation, and obstruction of nuclear inspections are serious enough to justify severing diplomatic relations. That makes this more than a bilateral dispute. Peru's decision is a significant rebuke to Tehran. If others follow, the Iranian regime may discover that its regional policies are shrinking not only its military and economic options, but its diplomatic space as well.
PERU SEVERS DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH IRAN #Peru has formally severed diplomatic relations with #Iran, citing repression at home, disruption of international trade through the Strait of Hormuz, regional escalation, and obstruction of IAEA inspections. Unofficial translation of the official Spanish statement: MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS PERU SEVERS DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN OFFICIAL STATEMENT NO. 014-26 The Government of Peru has, on various occasions, expressed its condemnation and profound concern regarding the grave situation threatening stability in the Middle East and seriously affecting international peace and security. In keeping with its firm commitment to the defense of democracy, a fundamental principle of its foreign policy, Peru has observed with mounting dismay the erosion of that principle in Iran, as documented by various United Nations mechanisms, particularly with regard to the repression of peaceful demonstrations, violations of freedom of the press, discrimination against women and girls, and the persecution of political opponents. The Government of Peru likewise views with profound concern the severe restrictions imposed by the Iranian regime, as well as the disruption of international trade through the Strait of Hormuz since March 2026. These actions contravene such principles as freedom of navigation and the right of transit passage through straits used for international navigation, which cannot be made subject to unilateral conditions. They also undermine the safety of navigation, the protection of human life at sea and the preservation of the marine environment, quite apart from their repercussions for energy prices and the stability of global supply chains. The Government of Peru also strongly rejects Iran’s incitement of violence and escalation of conflicts in the Middle East, as well as its obstruction of the work of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). On several occasions, Iran has denied IAEA inspectors access to nuclear facilities, thereby hindering the verification required to prevent the production of nuclear weapons. Accordingly, guided by its historic commitment to peace and in exercise of its unwavering commitment to respect for international law and the defense of democracy, the Government of the Republic of Peru has decided to sever diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran. In all matters relating to this decision, the Government of Peru is acting in accordance with the relevant provisions of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and, in particular, Article 45 thereof. With respect to the protection of its nationals and interests in Iran, and in accordance with the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, to which both States are parties, Peru’s decision to sever diplomatic relations with Iran does not entail the severance of consular relations. Such relations remain necessary to safeguard the nationals of each State and to perform the other functions set forth in Article 5 of that Convention. It should be noted that this decision was communicated to Iran by diplomatic note through the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Ecuador, which is concurrently accredited to Peru.

Peru severed diplomatic relations with Iran. The ayatollahs should pay attention. This is how diplomatic isolation can snowball: one government decides that Iran's repression, attacks on regional stability, disruption of Hormuz, and nuclear obstruction have made normal relations impossible, and others begin asking themselves the same question. The United States, Israel, Albania, and several other democracies already have no diplomatic relations with this regime.
