What is a deadlock?
A deadlock occurs when two or more processes are waiting for each other to release resources they need to continue. This results in a situation where none of the processes can proceed, and they end up waiting indefinitely.
🔹 Coffman Conditions
The Coffman conditions, named after Edward G. Coffman, Jr., who first described them in 1971, outline four necessary conditions that must all be present for a deadlock to occur:
- Mutual Exclusion: Resources cannot be shared simultaneously
- Hold and Wait: Processes hold resources while waiting for others
- No Preemption: Resources cannot be forcibly taken away
- Circular Wait: A circular chain of processes, each waiting for a resource held by the next
🔹 Deadlock Prevention
- Resource ordering: Require processes to request resources in a specific order
- Timeouts: Set time limits for resource usage to prevent indefinite holds
- Banker's Algorithm: A method that checks if granting a resource request would lead to a safe state
🔹 Deadlock Recovery
- Selecting a victim: Choose one or more processes to terminate or roll back
- Rollback: Undo the actions of the selected process(es) to free up resources
Have you encountered any challenging deadlock situations? How did you resolve them?

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗣𝗜 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲𝘀?
Various API architectural styles have emerged in web development and software integration to address different needs and use cases. When designing an API, the architectural style is crucial in determining its functionality, efficiency, and usability.
Here's an overview of the top 6 API architectural styles:
𝟭. 𝗦𝗢𝗔𝗣 is a protocol for exchanging structured information to implement web services. It was developed by Microsoft in 1998 as an evolution of XML-RPC. It uses XML for message format and relies on application layer protocols, primarily HTTP or SMTP, for message negotiation and transmission.
𝟮. 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗧 (𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿) is a stateless architectural style that uses standard HTTP methods (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE). It is based on resources identified by a URL and supports various data formats, including JSON and XML. Today, it is a standard protocol for APIs, offering a reliable and efficient solution for many use cases.
𝟯. 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗤𝗟 is a query language for your API and a server-side runtime for executing queries using a type system you define for your data. It allows clients to request only the needed data, reducing the amount transferred over the network. An example of usage is in mobile apps to efficiently fetch product data, including only the fields they need for display.
𝟰. 𝗴𝗥𝗣𝗖 is a high-performance, open-source framework developed by Google that uses HTTP/2 for transport and Protocol Buffers (protobuf) as the interface description language. It provides authentication, load balancing, and other features. It leverages HTTP/2 for multiplexing and efficient binary serialization via Protocol Buffers.
𝟱. 𝗪𝗲𝗯𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁 protocol provides full-duplex communication channels over a single, long-lived connection, allowing real-time data transfer between a client and a server. Its real-time capabilities make it an exciting solution for applications that require instant data synchronization. It was developed to address the limitations of HTTP for real-time, bidirectional communication, which often relied on inefficient polling techniques. An example of its usage is a real-time collaborative document editing application that might use WebSockets to synchronize changes between multiple users instantly.
𝟲. 𝗪𝗲𝗯𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 are user-defined HTTP callbacks triggered by specific events. Unlike traditional APIs, where the client requests data, a webhook sends data to a client when an event occurs. This user-driven functionality makes webhooks a powerful tool for integrating systems and providing real-time notifications. Webhooks gained widespread adoption in the early 2010s as more services began to offer them to empower users to create their integrations and receive real-time notifications.

Iterative, Agile, Waterfall, Spiral Model, RAD Model... What are the differences?
The Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) is a framework that outlines the process of developing software in a systematic way. Here are some of the most common ones:
1 - Waterfall Model:
- A linear and sequential approach.
- Divides the project into distinct phases: Requirements, Design, Implementation, Verification, and Maintenance.
2 - Agile Model:
- Development is done in small, manageable increments called sprints.
- Common Agile methodologies include Scrum, Kanban, and Extreme Programming (XP).
3 - V-Model (Validation and Verification Model):
- An extension of the Waterfall model.
- Each development phase is associated with a testing phase, forming a V shape.
4 - Iterative Model:
- Focuses on building a system incrementally.
- Each iteration builds upon the previous one until the final product is achieved.
5 - Spiral Model:
- Combines iterative development with systematic aspects of the Waterfall model.
- Each cycle involves planning, risk analysis, engineering, and evaluation.
6 - Big Bang Model:
- All coding is done with minimal planning, and the entire software is integrated and tested at once.
7 - RAD Model (Rapid Application Development):
- Emphasizes rapid prototyping and quick feedback.
- Focuses on quick development and delivery.
8 - Incremental Model:
- The product is designed, implemented, and tested incrementally until the product is finished.
Each of these models has its advantages and disadvantages, and the choice of which to use often depends on the specific requirements and constraints of the project at hand.

Terraform explained.
Terraform is an open-source innovation from HashiCorp that is changing infrastructure management.
It enables developers to use a high-level configuration language for infrastructure management, paving the way for quicker, automated deployments.
Infrastructure as Code (IaC) is more than an option; it's an essential requirement for flexible, modern development processes.
How Terraform works:
Developers create configurations to define the desired infrastructure state, utilize planning to assess the effect of changes, and then apply to put those changes into action.
State files are critical for keeping track of the infrastructure's state and coordinating resource interconnections.
This careful procedure helps ensure that infrastructure improvements are both secure and predictable.
Key features of Terraform include:
🔹 Infrastructure as code — it shifts infrastructure management into the domain of code, promoting efficiency and enabling version control.
🔹 Execution plans — before any change takes effect, Terraform offers a preview, adding a layer of predictability.
🔹 Resource graph — this visual tool maps out dependencies between resources, guiding safe and coherent changes.
🔹 Change automation — by automating deployments, Terraform reduces the chance of human error.
These characteristics work together to create a development environment that prioritizes automation, consistency, and efficient infrastructure handling.
Terraform vs other IaC tools:
Terraform's flexibility exceeds that of tools such as AWS CloudFormation, which is restricted to Amazon's environment, or Ansible, which focuses on configuration management.
It maintains many cloud services and infrastructure, providing a uniform, version-controlled overview of infrastructure across several platforms.
Terraform bridges the gap between development and operations, facilitating seamless infrastructure updates. It simplifies infrastructure management while increasing efficiency, predictability, and scalability.
