Happy Friday! It’s a great day to remember that behavior is a form of communication. Instead of looking for compliance, maybe you can be curious about the non-compliance?

An update on recess: It's immensely valuable yet still not required in most states; indeed, it's treated not only as unnecessary but as a privilege that a teacher may snatch away at whim to punish children: is.gd/fXOUrY
Happy Friday! It’s a great day to remember that your opinion isn’t a universal truth. We don’t need laws tailored to your opinions and discomforts. Start with curiosity and compassion. Look at individual humans and remember, we all want to be loved.
Happy Friday! Especially to those with little ones who cried about leaky syrup on their waffles this morning. Your ability to respond with empathy and compassion has been noted. Enjoy your weekend!
Happy Friday! It’s a great day to treat kids with respect just like you would your beloved grandma. Both might take a little extra time getting in the car but you would only say “hurry up” to one.
Happy Friday! Today’s Friday reminder comes from #MiaBirdsong: “the work of dismantling systems of oppression that you benefit from isn't altruistic work that just helps others; it is about your own liberation as well.”
Happy Friday! It’s a great day to remember that there is no such thing as “behind” when it comes to learning. We all learn at our own pace as we’re ready.

Parents: If your child DOESN’T periodically come home from preschool with stained clothing (from paint, markers, playground dirt), you should really find them a better preschool. Don’t get mad. Just dress accordingly.
Happy Friday! Always a great day to remember kids are people too. Today. They’re people today. They’re not almost people, half people, people getting ready for the world. They’re people. Full blown. And they’re already in the world.

The drop in test scores received more attention than the school shooting in St Louis this week. We must not allow violence to be normalized or allow educators to be blamed for the vast unmet needs of so many kids.
I love doing Wordle in front of my kids. They cheer me on like it’s the Súper bowl and act like I’m a magical word wizard even on the days I get it in 5. 🥳
Being an aging grown-up in an early childhood world is kind of embarrassing. You never know when you could throw out a hip during Rocketship Run or sprain a thumb rolling a tire down the hill. 🫣

Today’s @washingtonpost editorial on the #childcare crisis includes this sad factoid from the Bureau of Labor Statistics: America’s child care professionals make, on average, 59 cents less per hour than its DOG WALKERS. Let that sink in.

'It Will Get Easier'. When children are unhappy at school& reluctant to go, it's often called anxiety. The child's emotions are assumed to be the problem. The work of parents and professionals is to change how they feel. Here's the problem with that. (with @_MissingTheMark)1/

Schools aren’t working. This article claims the pandemic and remote learning brought about “a renewed focus on relationships and an emphasis on student-centered learning” though I’d argue for many it was a new, not renewed, focus. We need an entire new perspective on schooling.
The pandemic underscored the need for school change. Leaders must be ready to take on that work. #K12BigIdeas edweek.org/leadership/teache…

Practice feminist care ethics- don’t apologize for noisy kids, don’t apologize for a messy house/room, don’t apologize for needing a break or resting, appreciate the care you give and the care you receive!
