🚨 We have received whistleblower reports alleging dangerous conditions and serious mistreatment of detainees at two ICE holding facilities in Miramar and Orlando, Florida. Some of the allegations at these facilities include: —A woman who was seven months pregnant was detained for three weeks. —A person with hypertension was detained for 17 days. —A person in their 60s with several vascular disorders including hypertension and blood clots was detained for 15 days. —A person in their 60s with HIV/AIDS was detained for more than 14 days. —The Miramar facility was at one point 600% over capacity, holding 342 people at a 50-person facility. —Cells at the Miramar facility are significantly overcrowded, regularly reaching 200% to 300% over capacity. — More than 100 people have been forced to sit and sleep on the concrete floor of the sally port, a large warehouse-like structure without proper ventilation, at the Miramar facility. —When sleeping in the sally port at Miramar, detainees are fully shackled in handcuffs, leg irons, and belly chains. —Because of overcrowding in the Orlando facility, at times detainees are only able to stand in holding cells. —Detainees are held under bright lights 24/7. —People at the Orlando facility have been detained for up to two weeks at a time without seeing the light of day or breathing fresh air. —Consistently clogged toilets have led to urine and feces overflowing onto the floor of the holding cell at the Miramar facility. —Facility management has refused to service the portable toilets at the Miramar facility, leading to people tracking urine and feces on their shoes all day. —Hygiene products including soap, hand sanitizer, and menstrual products are limited or not provided at the facilities. —Detainees at both facilities are forced to wear the same unwashed clothes, including underwear, for weeks at a time. —At Orlando, black mold is visible in the air vents and individuals have reported respiratory discomfort and headaches. —Both facilities are severely understaffed. At Miramar, at times only three officers have been left to supervise more than 300 people at times. —Due to insufficient staffing at the Orlando facility, staff were initially instructed to shackle people for 24 hours a day. —Staff at the Miramar facility have shackled elderly people with serious health issues and limited mobility for 16 hours a day. —Officers have been forced to rely on 911 for all medical care as there are no medical staff onsite. However, officers at the Miramar site were instructed to stop calling 911 for non-emergency situations. —Individuals at the Miramar facility have reported chest pain, fainted, and become sick, with one detainee throwing up blood. —Legal access and family communication are generally restricted. —The Orlando facility deleted booking records for people they accidentally detained against court orders. —Both facilities have attempted to hide these horrible conditions from members of Congress performing oversight. —Leadership has threatened retaliation against officers who speak out about these conditions. —A White House official allegedly visited the Miramar facility, suggesting that the administration is aware of these conditions. These allegations are horrific, and we have launched a full investigation. ICE must immediately put an end to this inhumane treatment and give us answers.
