Meet our Solar System's newest dwarf planet candidate: 2026 ED138! Orbiting past Pluto, scientists found it in NSF–DOE Rubin Observatory data from earlier in 2026. Early analysis suggests it's 600–1500 km across, one of the largest found past Neptune! 🔗 rubinobservatory.org/news/ru…

DUTCH PEOPLE MATERIALISE IN THE JUNGLE 🇸🇷 There is a stereotype of the random Dutch person (or German or Brit) who will just emerge out of the undergrowth whenever you think you are visiting somewhere very remote, Northern Europeans apparently drawn to difficult to access poorly-marked hiking trails in the middle of nowhere in the third world like moths to a flame One day tried going to a nature park deep in the jungle in Suriname. It is incredibly difficult to get to this nature park, it involved many hours driving up very steep flooded mud roads with crevices down the middle, precarious drops on either side of the road, spiked foliage that scratches and scrapes (and expensively damages) your car etc. Tyre burst at one point because of the detritus on the path - caused the woman I was with to start having panic attacks, crying, shaking. Just an incredibly stressful experience, all-in-all not worth it I would say When you do eventually reach the top, you are in some fairly remote jungle. You think “wow, this is what it’s like to be in inaccessible deep rainforest.” But then, of course, Dutch people start materialising out of the aether. You sit down on a tree stump to rest for a few minutes, the jungle is still except for the sounds of birds and insects… suddenly you hear the Dutch voices approaching. Look up and it is like you are in central Groningen Maybe 30 Dutch in all scrambling over the reserve; in waterproof jackets, convertible trousers, leather boots, with daypacks, trekking poles etc. They weren’t even all in the same group they had come up mostly independently like us. Was malding a bit. You don’t even really see many Dutch in Paramaribo. Think this remote hill in Suriname is the ‘whitest’ place I have ever been in the whole of Latin America. I include Buenos Aires in that

This is a better way to visualize Columbus’ voyages than the traditional way (that shows him traveling through a modern map).. It looks a lot crazier and more daring when you see it as a trip into the unknown.

Seeing this for the first time in 1990 is hard to put into words. Adventure games weren’t new, of course, but this one catapulted to the throne quicker than you could say “Threepwood.” Pretty much everything about it felt magical. The graphics were stunning, full of warmth and vibrant colour. The music, the story, the puzzles, and the humour all felt made with enormous attention to detail and real love for the game. The intro alone hooked me instantly. There’s something about that opening scene: the different shades of blue, the moving clouds, the little village at the bottom of the mountain, and the warm, glowing fire at the top. I’ve completed the game several times by now. I’m sure most of you who see this post have too. I’d love to use that Men in Black memory eraser on myself, just to feel that original magic one more time. I sometimes wonder if The Secret of Monkey Island is THE most famous name in the history of adventure games. I have a hard time thinking of one that tops its status.
