The battlefield is evolving, and America's approach to defense must evolve with it. As low-cost drones and autonomous systems reshape modern warfare, traditional defense strategies face a growing challenge: countering increasingly sophisticated threats effectively, economically, and at scale. In his latest op-ed, “America Is Unprepared for Autonomous Warfare,” Applied Energetics President and CEO Chris Donaghey examines the changing economics of warfare and the urgent need to strengthen America's counter-autonomy capabilities. As these threats continue to advance, scalable, cost-effective solutions, including directed energy technologies, will play an important role in the future of layered defense. “The next military advantage will belong to the nation that can defeat autonomous systems economically at scale.” — Chris Donaghey Read the full article to learn more about the challenges ahead and the priorities shaping the future of autonomous defense: realcleardefense.com/article… #ScaledDirectedEnergy #DefenseInnovation $AERG

The next generation of defense capabilities isn't waiting. Applied Energetics President and CEO Chris Donaghey attended AUSA this week in Washington, D.C., connecting with leaders from across the defense community and getting a firsthand look at the technologies and capabilities advancing today's national security priorities. With the growing need for innovative, scalable solutions to address emerging threats, events like AUSA reinforce the importance of continued collaboration between government and industry. We appreciate the opportunity to be part of these conversations and look forward to building on the connections made throughout the event. #AUSA2026 #ScaledDirectedEnergy $AERG

Tucson, we're coming to Air Force Innovation Expo with something exciting to show you! Next week, Applied Energetics will be exhibiting at the 2026 Air Force Innovation Expo (AIX), co-located with the ARC WEPTAC/DCP Conference, right here in our hometown of Tucson, Arizona. At Booth #712, we'll be showcasing PLAID™, our ultrashort pulse laser (USPL) system designed to counter Group 1 and Group 2 unmanned aerial systems by targeting the electro-optical sensors they depend on for navigation, targeting, and imaging. As small drone threats continue to evolve, so does the need for innovative, scalable defense solutions. AIX brings together Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve leaders and operators who are helping define those needs, and we're looking forward to sharing how our technology can support layered defense strategies and mission readiness. Have counter-UAS defense on your agenda? So do we. Stop by Booth #712 to meet our team and learn more about PLAID™! #CounterUAS #ScaledDirectedEnergy $AERG

A major step forward in power, precision, and portability. Applied Energetics is excited to announce a significant advancement in our ultrashort pulse laser (USPL) technology, successfully validating a next-generation architecture that delivers higher power and dramatically improved beam quality. These improvements mark an important milestone in expanding the potential of directed energy solutions, with implications for: 🔹 Extended counter-drone range: More effective laser energy delivery over greater distances to address evolving Group 1 and Group 2 drone threats. 🔹 Greater mobility: Advancing the technical viability of backpackable directed energy systems for applications where portability and rapid deployment are critical. 🔹 Continued innovation: Construction is now underway on two prototype systems, including an extended-range counter-drone system and a backpackable laser system. This achievement represents meaningful progress toward delivering more powerful, precise, and adaptable directed energy capabilities to meet critical national security needs. Thank you to Congressman Abraham Hamadeh, Southwest Mission Acceleration Center (MAC), and to special guest Senator Joni Ernst for convening leaders from across Arizona’s national security community at last night’s inaugural Arizona Arsenal of Defense Summit. The event brought together defense prime contractors, early-stage defense technology companies, and government and military leaders to discuss the technologies, partnerships, and capabilities needed to strengthen America’s national security. As an Arizona-based company advancing ultrashort pulse laser technologies for emerging defense applications, Applied Energetics values opportunities to connect across the defense ecosystem. We were proud to participate and look forward to building on the momentum from this inaugural gathering. Chris Donaghey Gregory Quarles #Arizona #DefenseTechnology #ScaledDirectedEnergy $AERG

The battlespace is changing. So is what’s possible with directed energy. Applied Energetics is advancing ultrashort pulse laser technologies built around the realities of modern national security challenges. Our work is focused on taking directed energy beyond the lab and toward operationally relevant capabilities that can address emerging threats, including increasingly sophisticated unmanned systems and sensors. It’s complex technology with a straightforward purpose: give the warfighter new ways to respond as threats, missions, and the battlespace continue to evolve. This is who we are. This is what we’re building. And this is Directed Energy, Anywhere. #ScaledDirectedEnergy #USPL $AERG

Drones are getting cheaper and missiles are getting more capable. Because of this, the number of threats defenders may have to address simultaneously continues to grow. A recent Wall Street Journal article examining the vulnerability of U.S. military bases makes an important point: as drones and missiles become more prevalent, protecting critical infrastructure will require a different approach to defense. This threat isn’t theoretical. And the cost of waiting is becoming increasingly clear. A single technology won’t solve this problem; the future is layered, bringing together active and passive defenses, electronic warfare, hardened infrastructure, dispersion, and emerging capabilities such as directed energy to give warfighters more options against increasingly complex threats. For Applied Energetics, this reinforces why advancing next-generation directed energy capabilities matters. As the threat environment evolves, the technologies designed to protect our forces, infrastructure, and national security interests must evolve with it. Tomorrow’s defenses have to be built for tomorrow’s threats. The work to get there has to happen today. #DirectedEnergy #ScaledDirectedEnergy #NationalSecurity $AERG

The path from innovation to the warfighter just took another step forward. We’re proud to announce our selection for a Strategic Funding Increase (STRATFI) opportunity by AFWERX, the innovation arm of the United States Department of the Air Force and a directorate within the Air Force Research Laboratory. The opportunity has an $8 million funding ceiling, including funding through STRATFI and matching funding from the Air National Guard. Funding received through this opportunity will be used to accelerate the development of Applied Energetics’ Pulsed Laser Air Defense (PLAID) capability and advance it toward operational use. STRATFI is designed to help accelerate technologies toward operational use, making this an important opportunity to continue moving Applied Energetics’ technology from development toward complex national security missions. “This STRATFI opportunity represents an important step forward for PLAID. The total potential funding of up to $8 million is matched by capital Applied Energetics previously secured through historical capital raises, providing a strong foundation to accelerate PLAID’s development and advance this capability toward operational use.” - Chris Donaghey, President and CEO of Applied Energetics. As threats evolve, getting new capabilities from development to deployment faster matters more than ever. We’re proud to keep moving that mission forward. #ScaledDirectedEnergy #DefenseInnovation #NationalSecurity #AERG
