Just finished my Transformers 40th & Resident Evil theatre day.
Of course transformers is amazing and so happy I saw it in theaters. RIP to the GOAT Peter Cullen.
If I was watching Resident Evil as a standalone, “Monsters” film I enjoyed it. I loved the atmosphere and the creature types. The first person was also a neat addition, reminds me of how they implemented this same video game feel into Garfield’s Spider-Man. And the weapon progression you see was good. Also the general theme of complete and utter, debilitating fear was amazing.
But as a Resident Evil film, it was disappointing. A lot of the jokes fell flat and there was no deep conversations, themes, or lore. There’s lots of small fun details like green herbs and location names are the bulk of what makes it Resident Evil. You don’t need to know anything about the games then you’d get some enjoyment out of it.
Resident Evil was really fun!
Not sure why it’s getting so much hate. More campy than I expected. We really enjoyed it. I can understand why some people didn’t like the ending but honestly it was… refreshing and I didn’t mind at all.
Worth the watch. 8/10
