Charlie Munger, the Stoic: "Life will have terrible blows in it. Horrible blows. Unfair blows. It doesn't matter. And some people recover and others don't."
"There, I think the attitude of Epictetus is the best. He thought that every mischance in life was an opportunity to behave well. Every mischance in life was an opportunity to learn something. Your duty was not to be submerged in self-pity, but to utilize the terrible blow in a constructive fashion."

Most underrated band of the '80s. They are our Radiohead - evolving from mainstream sound to something transcendent. All of it was superb. #TalkTalk

1976 @Braves Christmas card.
There are greats, and then there is greatness stacked atop mythology. Throwing triple digits and no-hitters in your 40s. Beating Robin Ventura's ass. That Texas drawl, the swagger. I've watched this sport for 50 years. I've seen no better, certainly not for such an extended time.
"The Mets finally gave up on Nolan Ryan's wandering fastball today."
New York Times.
"But we've had him three full years and, although Nolan's a hell of a prospect, he hasn't done it for us.
How long can you wait?
I can't rate him in the same category with Tom Seaver, Jerry Koosman or Gary Gentry."
Mets GM Bob Scheffing.
"I always thought that there was going to be life after baseball, and so I designed that in my life I would have other interests after baseball that I would be able to step into. And I didn't realize the grip that baseball had on me and on my family."
Nolan Ryan.
Nolan Ryan pitched for twenty-seven seasons and led the league in strikeouts ELEVEN different times, including his twenty-fourth season when he was 43 years old.
Recorded 10 or more strikeouts in a Major League record 215 games.
"Most players have a limited window of opportunity to play the game.
Failure to protect your arm against the elements can limit your performance and increase the risk of injury.
In my 27 years in the MLB, I never pitched a game without long sleeves and always wore a jacket or wrapped my arm in towels between innings to keep it warm, even in the Texas heat.
Prevention is much easier than rehab."
Nolan Ryan.

"A guy with a Cubs hat and his fatigues gets off and works his way down to the pontoon boat.
Low and behold it’s Ernie Banks.
So, the Captain decides we’re gonna scrounge some steaks and beer from the Navy, and we’re gonna have a steak fry.
The first thing Ernie Banks did when he hit the pontoon, was take his shirt off ‘cause it was hot as blazes.
Ernie left his Cubs hat on and he hollered out and says:
"Is this anybody here from Chicago?"
And then he looks around and hollered out:
'Well, anybody here from Wisconsin?"
Well I waved my hands you know and I says:
"Ya I’m from Wisconsin."
A Navy guy that came running up and he had a Polaroid camera.
Ernie put his arms around me and "Doc" Soul.
And the Navy guy took that photo.
"I’m a Cubbies fan".
