A decade ago I had ordered @Charles_Lister’s book and in between work breaks would read (what was then assumed) about our current president. Today, I find myself coordinating this event with MEI and the President of Syria, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, in New York. We call this أحلام العصر.

The claim is misleading. This is the fifth wildfire in Syria this year, where fires break out every summer due to extreme heat. They’ve hit Muslim, Christian, and Alawite areas alike. Labeling it a “Christian city” fire set on purpose is pure fake propaganda.

An honor to attend. Al-Sharaa’s message to the US Syrian community was clear: reconstruction is ahead, and you all must be part of it. My takeaway: the economy is everything—solve it and even your critics will rally, fail and even your supporters will turn. And yet, all domestic issues pale beside the Israeli question.

This really show how in the end it was never Hikmat's goal to save the Druze people. Hikmat's interests was only his own well being, and now that Sunni tribal forces are once again breaching into Suwayda and the Israelis are not coming to his aid, he's asking for protection from the Damascus government.
The very same government whose forces he ambushed and executed on numerous occasions, the same government which offered him multiple ceasefires to deescalate the situation, all of which he refused.
The Syrian government needs to intervene right now to prevent another round of sectarian bloodshed, but Hikmat needs to answer for his part in the violence afterwards.

Syria’s Supreme Fatwa Council ruled on the illegality of seeking aid from Israel, harming civilians, and inciting sectarianism. It stresses the state's duty to protect all, forbids targeting Syrians by sect, and upholds self-defense and aid for the oppressed within Islamic law.
