We’re in peak hurricane, cyclone, AND typhoon season, a time when minor storms can quickly develop into something dangerous. If you’re traveling to a storm-prone area, be sure to sign up for STEP alerts, monitor local weather conditions closely, and keep a basic emergency kit ready with your passports, other important documents, your prescription medications, and local currency in a watertight plastic bag. Find more tips at travel.state.gov/crisis.

Okinawa, Japan: A large typhoon is currently approaching the main island of Okinawa and is expected to affect the region beginning August 6, 2026 through at least August 9, 2026. This storm is large and slow-moving, passing directly over parts of Okinawa. A period of calm and clear skies may occur due to the eye of the storm passing through the area—citizens are urged not to go outside during this period to avoid getting caught in the trailing side of the storm. Expect extremely high winds, dangerous storm tides, heavy rainfall, possible flooding, and landslides. More at jp.usembassy.gov/weather-ale…

The Trump Administration has no higher priority than the safety and security of Americans. To reduce the risk of Ebola importation into the United States, CDC is temporarily restricting U.S. entry for travelers who were recently in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Travelers, including Americans, who have been in the DRC within 21 days of their flight will not be allowed to board commercial flights with U.S. destinations. All U.S. citizens and U.S. nationals who have been in the DRC should plan to remain outside the DRC for 21 days before entering the United States. U.S. citizens and U.S. nationals who have been present in Uganda or South Sudan (and not present in DRC) within 21 days of arrival in the United States must only enter through designated airports for enhanced screening. Americans who need consular assistance can call the Department of State at +1-202-501-4444/+1-888-407-4747 or visit travel.state.gov/en/internat…
