Sound advice for academic job hunters is to speak to people who used to work in the lab youāre applying to. Iām always happy to talk to anyone applying for positions at any labs Iāve worked in or with people Iāve worked with/for. Email here port.ac.uk/about-us/structurā¦

6/ An argument re: we shouldn't be political is why should I have to pay a price for the past when things are better? That's a tragic viewpoint for profs to have who prize complexity. It isn't objectivity; it's willful ignorance. Our studies/subjects do not exist in outer space.
Told @J_Shake1 he should be grateful to have access to such high tech equipment during his PhD. Thatās a spoon gaffa taped to a stick. For science!
Gorgeous day out on the salt marsh at Fishbourne Channel with @J_Shake1 doing vegetation surveys for his PhD! Lovely bit of open oak woodland here too. @HeritageHub_uop @GradSchoolUoP #saltmarsh
Love this! What a cool family connection to have!

Spent some time last week watching these videos- they are really excellent! Thanks @Bill_Sutherland for making them :)
Did you, like me, really enjoy last week's superb @BBCSpringwatch, including learning some fascinating science e.g. rotating frog eggs? I have attempted to explain key scientific concepts in conservation for others of a nerdy disposition. Hope some enjoy.

A common piece of advice when choosing a supervisor is to ask their students about what theyāre like.
I think a better way is to see where their old students are now. Have they finished, how long did it take them to finish, what are they doing now?
The reason why is because if you ask current students, you donāt know how open they are being, for a number of reasons.
Talk is cheap, and results are harder to fake.
