A milestone for PCU John F. Kennedy (CVN 79) on the U.S. Navy’s 251st birthday: the aircraft carrier recovered its first aircraft, an F-35C Lightning II from VX-23’s “Salty Dogs.” The first F-35C recovery aboard a Ford-class carrier reflects the progress of the Navy’s next-generation carriers and the industrial base workforce and suppliers behind them.

The U.S. Navy’s $336M advance procurement award for CVN 82 underscores what a strong industrial base requires: predictable, on-time funding.
As NNS Vice President of Program Management Bryan Caccavale said: “Ordering the materials necessary to build the world’s mightiest aircraft carriers is a critical first step as we begin planning for CVN 82. This contract sends an important demand signal to the thousands of suppliers across the nation who make up the aircraft carrier industrial base.”
For America’s shipbuilding supply chain, stable demand supports workforce growth, supplier investment and resilient domestic manufacturing.

Building a 355+ ship Navy takes more than just funding. It takes a resilient industrial base.

"Consistent, predictable, and stable funding is the most critical factor for the health of the aircraft carrier industrial base.”
In a must-read article by @PeterSuciu, our Chair, @lisa_papini, discusses the importance of supporting the suppliers who ensure America's maritime dominance. ACIBC's latest data shows why this is so urgent as less than 10% of suppliers are operating at full capacity.

Our key message from Action Days is resonating on Capitol Hill: Aircraft carriers are indispensable.
To sustain them, the industrial base that builds and maintains these vital national assets requires a strong, steady, and predictable demand signal.
This was powerfully affirmed by Representative Trent Kelly during the inaugural hearing for the National Commission on the Future of the Navy, where he stressed the continued relevance of aircraft carriers in today's global environment:
“People will say aircraft carriers are a thing of the past, and they're wrong. I think they're pretty relevant in the Gulf right now. I think they were pretty relevant off the coast of South America earlier. Our carriers provide us airfields when no one will give us access to their airfields.”
This support underscores the critical need for stable investment in our naval capabilities and the industrial base that sustains them.
