Today, the African Community Centre for Social Sustainability (ACCESS) held a meaningful and inspiring engagement with local government leaders, ranging from LC1 and LC3 chairpersons to mayors and council representatives from the different sub-counties where ACCESS operates in Nakaseke District. The engagement provided an important platform for open dialogue, reflection, and collective action on how ACCESS can continue improving its services across its four key areas: healthcare, education, environmental sustainability, and economic empowerment. Throughout the discussion, local leaders expressed their appreciation for the work ACCESS continues to do in transforming lives, supporting vulnerable families, improving access to essential services, and creating opportunities for communities to become more self-reliant.
However, beyond the appreciation came an important reminder of the challenges our communities continue to face. One of the most touching moments was when local leaders appealed to ACCESS to consider restoring some of the essential healthcare services that had been interrupted due to funding cuts. Their voices reflected the realities of families who depend on accessible and affordable healthcare, especially those living in vulnerable and underserved communities.
This conversation reminded us that behind every service we provide is a human story: a mother seeking medical attention for her child, a young person dreaming of completing their education, a farmer struggling with the effects of climate change, or a family working tirelessly to build a sustainable livelihood. While funding challenges remain a reality, today's engagement was not simply about what has been lost. It was about what we can rebuild together.
Our discussions explored how stronger collaboration between ACCESS, local government structures, community leaders, and other stakeholders can help identify local solutions, strengthen community ownership, mobilize resources, and ensure that our interventions respond to the most pressing needs of the people we serve.
We believe that sustainable development cannot be achieved by one organization working alone. It requires listening to communities, respecting local leadership, sharing responsibilities, and building partnerships rooted in trust and a common purpose. For ACCESS, this engagement reaffirmed something fundamental: communities should not merely be beneficiaries of development; they must be active participants in shaping their own future.
As we move forward, we remain committed to strengthening our partnerships and exploring practical ways to sustain and improve our programs, even in the face of limited resources. Because the true measure of our work is not simply the number of programs we implement, but the lives we touch, the hope we restore, and the communities we empower to stand stronger tomorrow. At ACCESS, we believe lasting change begins when we listen, grows when we collaborate, and becomes sustainable when communities take ownership.

Behind every institution are people whose names may never appear in reports, on buildings, or in public speeches but whose service gives the work meaning.
The story of ACCESS is not only about programmes and achievements. It is about founders who believed, workers who served quietly, OVCs whose lives gave purpose to the mission, community health workers who reached households, and partners who chose to walk the journey with us.
This reflection looks beyond the statistics to the people who have shaped ACCESS and the deeper meaning of community-owned development.

For many vulnerable girls in our community, vocational training is more than learning a skill it is a second chance. It offers hope to young women who may have dropped out of school, face economic hardship, or have limited opportunities to build an independent future. We are also seeing more boys step forward to join these programmes, showing a growing demand among young people for practical skills that can lead to employment, entrepreneurship, and self-reliance. As the world of work changes through technology and artificial intelligence, we want these young people to be prepared, confident, and able to participate in the opportunities of a modern economy rather than being left behind.
A stronger and better-equipped vocational training centre would allow us to reach many more young people, provide higher-quality training, and introduce new skills in digital literacy, entrepreneurship, technology, and responsible use of AI alongside practical vocational trades. With the support of partners and donors, we can create a safe and inspiring learning environment where vulnerable girls and boys can discover their potential, gain marketable skills, and build better futures. Every investment in this centre is an investment in dignity, independence, stronger families, and a generation of young people who can transform their own lives and contribute to the development of their communities.

This October, we are returning to the heart of Nakaseke with one simple belief: no one should have to choose between putting food on the table and getting the medical care they need.
On 22nd & 23rd October 2026, ACCESS Uganda–Nakaseke will hold a free medical camp, bringing care closer to families who may otherwise go without it. Behind every person who comes through our doors will be a story a mother worried about her child, an elderly person living with pain, a young person who has never had the opportunity for a proper health check, or a family simply trying to survive these difficult times.
We are calling upon physicians, clinicians, pharmacists, nurses, midwives and all medical professionals who believe that their knowledge can become someone else's hope. Come and serve with us. Your hands, your skills and even a few hours of your time could change someone's story.
And to every individual, company, friend and well-wisher who wants to create social impact: you do not have to wear a white coat to save a life. A donation of medicines, medical supplies, equipment, refreshments, transport support or financial assistance can help us reach one more person who desperately needs care.
Sometimes impact is not measured in millions. Sometimes it is the woman who finally gets examined. The child who receives treatment. The patient who discovers an illness early enough to act. The family that returns home with hope instead of fear.
This October, come to Nakaseke. Stand with our people. Give your time. Give your skills. Give what you can.
Because when someone is hurting, your presence can be medicine too.

A society reaches a dangerous turning point when the voices of the young are dismissed not because they lack wisdom, but because they challenge uncomfortable truths. The role of elders is not merely to hold power, but to preserve justice, dignity, and hope for generations to come. History reminds us that every generation has a responsibility to listen, reflect, and correct its course. The courage of young people to ask difficult questions should not be seen as rebellion; it can be a call to accountability and a reminder that leadership is built on service, trust, and responsibility. Good morning
