We’ve got a LATTE☕️ to say about Don’t Let it Loose!
This summer, Tank our goldfish mascot appeared in @coffeenews to share Don’t Let it Loose. Today we sat down with them for an interview about protecting our waters from #invasivespecies like released goldfish & zebra mussels – at Beaumont, Alberta

We’re wrapping up #FishyFriday with a nice little BOWfin🎀
Known for their long bodies, mouths that extend past the eyes & a distinct black spot with a yellow halo on the tail for males. These fish will eat any animal small enough to fit in their mouths!

Knap it in the bud!⏱️EARLY DETECTION MATTERS!
🟣One plant spotted early can be removed
🟣One patch reported early can be contained
🟣One flowering stem prevented from setting seed can stop thousands more plants from following

Red fins raising red flags🚩

Hello, goby-bye 👋

#ThrowbackThursday to when the Biocontrol Release Program used a metal plate as their release point🪲🔨
This little piece of history dates to 2003. For those history buffs in the crowd… #AB Biocontrol Release Program began in 2001 between @AAFC_Canada & several Fieldmen
Punny or not, thistles ARE trouble!🌵
Canada thistle has the ability to spread rapidly to form thick dense patches that compete with native vegetation, reduce diversity and impact habitat for native wildflowers.

Not all invasive species are regulated—but they're all worth reporting!👍
Although Kochia (pictured here!) may not be provincially regulated, it's still of concern due to its rapid spread, tumbleweed seed dispersal & increasing herbicide resistance.
🦟With mosquitoes all over #AB, you might think a fish called Western Mosquitofish sounds like good news... think again🐟
Originally introduced as a biocontrol for mosquitoes but have shown unintended consequences for aquatic ecosystems.
