Back in DC — second @WhiteHouse meeting in two months. Insightful conversation with Special Assistant to the President & Senior Director for European and Russian Affairs Charles McLaughlin (following July’s mtg with DNSA Andy Baker). Grateful to @POTUS for his role in saving the lives of Belarusian political prisoners.
Together with @tsikhanouski_s, we also met the co-chairs of the Free Belarus Caucus in Congress.
Our message was clear: 🇺🇸 support for Belarus must stay bipartisan & principled.

The first photo of former political prisoner Yury Zyankovich after his release. In the shot, the Belarusian is sitting with Deputy US Special Representative for Ukraine John Cole, who personally took Zyankovich to Lithuania.
Yuriy Zyankovich, a lawyer who interrupted his career in the US and came to Belarus, his first homeland, after the protests began in 2020. The regime has brought more charges against him and sentenced him to more sentences, the most serious of which was alleged complicity in the attempted overthrow of Alyaksandr Lukashenka
