The Addenbrookes Air Disinfection Study is the first of its kind in the world. HEPA/UVC is installed on two wards at CUH examining any reduction to HAIs.

Result from @AAirDStudy TLDR; - compliance issues, but there was still a signal that air cleaning units may reduce risk of SARS-COV-2 infection. Add this to other studies we know about and evidence is stacking up. #CleanAir
The clinical results of the Addenbrooke's air cleaning study have now been published in JHI sciencedirect.com/science/ar…. You can find out more at mrc-bsu.cam.ac.uk/news/new-e…. Very pleased for all my colleagues who put in a lot of hard work. Well done. #Covid #COVIDisAirborne #SARSCoV2

Air cleaning units Air cleaning Air quality measuring, these should all be the focus of IPC going forward. This is the start of nosocomial covid prevention for pts and staff. Get on board. sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

The system is working as intended... This thread explains a lot on the covid horrorshow but will be ignored because it doesn't fit NPC narratives. In 2020 I said the official slogan should change to include VENTILATE. This never happened. One of the weirdest most interesting things on covid is the extreme resistance across bureaucracies to accepting it was mainly airborne therefore VENTILATION was critical You can see this in Ritchie's bullshit. And note she remains in charge. And obviously got an OBE. Many such cases... The system is working as intended
COVID INQUIRY I’ve posted a number of tweets from the Inquiry hearing on 16 Sept. This was the day that Dr Lisa Ritchie took the stand. She chaired the IPC Cell which wrote the Covid infection control guidance for UK hospitals. I’ve collated all the tweets in this thread 🧵

Great to see this first results report from @AAirDStudy out (main paper to follow). Important results. When we showed that HEPA cleared #Covid_19 from the air people said “just implement it, don’t study it” and we said “it’s important to see to implement it”. Well here we are👇

Great session by chair Joanna Walker @NHSLanarkshire alongside Christine Peters @NHSGGCeHealth and Jim Gray @BWC_NHS to discuss 'Lessons for Future Pandemics'. #FIS2023

Apologies for the pay wall, but nice to see some reporting on the fact that we don't even need to rely on an understanding of physics any more - #CleanAir improves children's health in an RCT. What's the air quality like in your workplace? newscientist.com/article/239…

Definately. We are utilising CFD simulations via @Dassault3DS including pre-existing heating sources, impact of natural ventilation use in a winter scenario and addition of HEPA/Filtration to the mix to try and establish carbon impact. The @AAirDStudy is also examining ABX use

Guidance produced without Infection Control. Here it is - none of the listed authors / contributors are IPC. Its an airborne infection & they don't need us. We are not the experts in the room. We are not even in the room. england.nhs.uk/long-read/app… Well done @mjb302 @CathNoakes

I think in a relatively short period of time we will look back and wonder why we allowed indoor air to become so dirty - and approach it as we do clean water, as a basic human right gov.uk/government/news/we-ca…

A pleasure to be involved with a dynamic and committed group of researchers who are motivated to make air safer for all -the twiterati include @mjb302, @microlabdoc, @TheoGouliouris @AirPurityUK @Vkeevil

But even if there is no impact on infections (which seems unlikely -although nosocomial infection is so multi-factorial detecting an impact may be hard) – simply removing particulates of this size from the air should improve respiratory health. epa.gov/pm-pollution/health-…

Its not certain what proportion of these particulates were bioaerosol (we’re working on measuring bioaerosol too -data to come in the future). Its also not clear what if any impact there will be on nosocomial infection -that’s what @AAirDStudy is there to find out.

The particulates do not move in the way the hospital ventilation was designed to move them, so its likely they are carried on currents generated by staff (and visitor) movement

And we know that hospital air contains loads of microbes, not just viruses, in readily respirable particulates -mostly in the 1-4micron range academic.oup.com/cid/article…

What does this mean? Firstly it demonstrates how particulates circulate around a ward – a particulate containing an infectious organism could therefore spread further than droplet dispersion might predict – raising the risks of airborne nosocomial infection.
