It's good to see the insurance industry challenging negative rhetoric on 20mph limits.

The Reform protesters have complained about the way they were ejected from conference.
But one of them tells @NickFerrariLBC the response from party figures has been 'just as shocking'.

Great to see that 20mph speed limits are coming to almost 800 more Glasgow streets as the city progresses on its plans for 20mph as the new norm.

As a parent myself, I know an infinitely bigger danger to children’s safety is the default 30mph speed limit on Traffords roads. Sadly Cllr Eckersley mocked Trafford Greens for proposing a default 20mph limit, despite all the evidence showing clear safety benefits.

Bike lanes aren’t about catering to existing cyclists, but about opening up access, independence and opportunity for those who can't drive. Cities investing in cycling are choosing to give more people the freedom to move through their communities.

Sept. 2020, & residents had high hopes the A56 “public highway” between Sale & Stretford would soon be safe for children, parents & grandparents to cycle along. 6 years later & cycle lanes removed with no consideration for safety - only the convenience of drivers.
If only our Mayor for Gtr M/cr had been this brave - maybe time for the new @mayorofgm to have a rethink. theguardian.com/commentisfre…
Whilst in Greater Manchester, the Labour Mayor bottled it, presumably showing the worst of what @UKLabour can do in power.
The astonishing political courage shown by @MayorofLondon in introducing and expanding the ULEZ shows the best of what @UKLabour can do in power.
Traffic reduction is wholly aligned to Labour values: theguardian.com/commentisfre…

“Air pollution fell substantially as Paris restricted car traffic and made way for parks, people-streets and bike-lanes.”
Better for the climate, better for health, better for livability and quality of life.
Common sense.
Such a no-brainer, it’s remarkable that more cities HAVEN’T done the same.

Mmmm - Clackton result announced at 3am, sunrise in Clacton 5:30am, and masked protesters (implying Nigel Farage was right to be scared of turning up) arrived at 3am in broad daylight.
More than 50 masked protesters gathered in Clacton just minutes before Nigel Farage declared by-election winner

New architecture doesn’t have to be bland and boring - just wish the architects who designed Stretford’s new town centre flats had realised this.

The little brown bat hunting your yard tonight could be a pup born this spring, out on its own for the first time. Your yard helps decide if it survives the winter.
August is when this year's bat pups start to reach independence. They've left the maternity roost, they're learning to hunt, and they need every insect-filled night they can get before hibernation.
A single little brown bat can eat up to 1,000 insects in an hour. A pup still learning the job needs that density to survive its first winter.
Here's what you can do right now:
Unplug the bug zapper. Every moth and beetle it kills is a meal the pup doesn't get. A University of Delaware study found mosquitoes were 0.22% of what bug zappers actually kill. The rest are the insects bats need.
Turn the porch light off. Bright lights pull insects away from the dark areas bats hunt in and disrupt their foraging patterns. A light off at 10pm returns thousands of insects to the night and gives the bats somewhere to do their thing.
Skip the yard spray this month. Broad-spectrum insecticides applied in August gut the insect populations the pups are learning to hunt. A young bat that can't find enough food in its first weeks of flight doesn't make it to spring.
Put up a bat box. A properly installed box, south or southeast facing, full sun, 12 to 15 feet up on a pole away from trees, can attract a colony within a season or two. The pups dispersing from maternity roosts right now are looking for exactly this.
The bats are out there every night doing work you benefit from directly. August is when the next generation is learning the job. Make it easier for them.
I didn’t think it was the Mayor’s job to fix potholes, that’s down to the local authorities, not the mayor. Sounds more like publicising your sponsor than promising to fix a problem that isn’t your responsibility.

Only Labour can be led by a former Human Right's Lawyer, Keir Starmer, and be ok with people not convicted of terrorism offences, being sentenced as though their actions were terrorism-related
Criminal damage and attacking the police are serious wrongs that deserve firm punishment. But deliberately conflating them with terrorism sets a dangerous precedent
When the state blurs the line between thuggish disorder and terrorism, it undermines public trust, invites accusations of two-tier justice, and weakens the very safeguards the former human rights barrister once championed
This is the legacy of Keir Starmer, who leads the party, of Yvette Cooper, whose proscription of a protest group was ruled unlawful by the High Court, and Shabana Mahmood, who continues this divisive narrative
I'm very much aligned to the views expressed by Baron Hain in the House of Lords, rightly calling out criminal behaviour while criticising this conflation. His words are true now, as they were back then. And like him, I too am deeply ashamed,
"Treating young people as terrorists because they feel frustrated about the failure to stop mass killings and bombings of civilians in Gaza"
"I've never supported their activity, but there's a great difference between what they did and terrorism"
"And if you start labelling people willy nilly terrorists right across the board, you're going down a very dangerous route"
"Al Qaeda's attack on New Yorks twin towers killing 2,753 people - real terrorism"
"ISIS - real terrorism"
"This Labour government is treating Palestine Action as equivalent to ISIS or Al Qaeda, which is intellectually bankrupt, politically unprincipled, and morally wrong"
"Frankly I'm deeply ashamed"
