GREG ABEL THINKS ENERGY AND SITE READINESS COULD BE THE REAL BOTTLENECK FOR AI DATA CENTERS
He says Berkshire Hathaway $BRK.B can produce the power, but getting sites prepared and ready to serve new data centers takes time.
🚨 BERKSHIRE HATHAWAY CEO GREG ABEL ON THE REAL BOTTLENECK IN THE AI DATA CENTER BOOM:
"As they continue to announce all the data centers and data center sites, I've always had a strong view that energy would be the constraint. We can produce the energy. The question is how long it would take to get the sites prepared and in a position to serve the data centers. I continue to see that as a big constraint."
On Berkshire's current exposure:
"In Iowa, where we have a number of data centers, approximately 8% of our load last year came from data centers. We see incremental load coming on, both from customers requesting it and what we can serve."
His principle for serving hyperscalers:
"We've operated to some pretty basic principles. We're interested in serving these hyperscalers if there was no impact to the rates of our other customers. In fact, we've taken the approach there has to be a net benefit to our customers."
Jensen Huang said $1 trillion is being invested in US AI infrastructure this year.
The CEO of the company that owns the power grid just said the bottleneck is not the money.
It is the sites and the energy.

Barcelona lost Messi in 2021 because they were €1.2 billion in debt and La Liga slashed their wage cap from €347 million to €97 million. The emergency fix was fielding children. Four years later those children won La Liga, and one of them carries a €1 billion release clause.
The cap crisis meant Barcelona couldn't register signings. Academy kids on entry-level wages were the only players they could afford to put on the pitch. So Lamine Yamal debuted at 15 years and 9 months. Pau Cubarsí debuted at 16. Gavi, Pedri, Balde, and Casadó all got minutes a healthy club would never have risked on teenagers.
Then the desperation play turned out to be the best roster strategy in football. Yamal joined at age 7 from CF La Torreta, a local youth club. Transfer fee zero. Barcelona turned down a €250 million bid for him. He made 106 senior appearances before turning 18. Messi made 9.
The cap math makes it even better. Real Madrid operates with a €761 million squad cost limit. Barcelona's is €432 million. They won the league anyway, because half the starting lineup was developed in-house at academy cost.
Messi's final Barcelona contract was worth over €500 million. His replacement cost nothing.
Those 11-year-olds in the video are the next batch. A pipeline that began as a bankruptcy workaround is now the entire plan.

Messi is so great that an entire fanbase has to convince people the World Cup is rigged for him instead of accepting that a 39-year-old has 8 goals in 5 matches. 😭

At some point, maybe accept that controversial refereeing decisions happen in football.
