One thing that becomes obvious when you study financial infrastructure closely is that banks do not primarily optimize around efficiency. They optimize around containing failure. That distinction explains a lot about why institutional blockchain adoption has moved much slower than many people in crypto expected. Modern finance is an interconnected risk system. A consumer technology company can deploy imperfect software and iterate quickly because most failures remain localized. Financial institutions operate differently. A liquidity mismatch, settlement inconsistency, or reconciliation breakdown can propagate across counterparties, custodians, regulators, and balance sheets very quickly. So banks evaluate infrastructure through a very different lens than startups do. The central question is rarely: “Is this technologically better?” It is usually: “Does this reduce systemic operational risk without introducing new forms of uncertainty?” That is where most blockchain infrastructure historically struggled with institutions. Public execution environments expose transactional activity that regulated entities cannot comfortably place onto open systems. Shared infrastructure creates governance and compliance complications around operational control. And many systems still rely on assumptions around sequencers, counterparties, or intermediaries that regulated finance is specifically designed to minimize. In other words, institutions were often being asked to exchange familiar operational risks for unfamiliar architectural ones. That is not an easy trade for a bank to make. What makes Prividium on @zksync interesting is that it approaches blockchain architecture from the perspective of institutional operational requirements rather than crypto-native assumptions. Execution remains inside institution-controlled environments. Sensitive financial activity stays private. Verification happens through zero-knowledge proofs anchored to Ethereum. Regulators can receive selective disclosure without turning the entire settlement environment into a publicly observable system. That changes the tradeoff structure significantly. Historically, finance solved coordination problems through layered trust mechanisms: intermediaries, delayed settlement, duplicated reconciliation, pre-funded liquidity, and operational buffers between institutions that could never fully verify each other’s internal state in real time. Those systems created enormous inefficiency, but they also created predictability. Cryptographic verification introduces a different model where correctness can be mathematically proven without exposing underlying transaction data or relying on continuous operational mediation between parties. That has implications far beyond transaction speed. It changes how institutions can coordinate. And the adoption pattern forming around this infrastructure is difficult to ignore. Cari Network represents five U.S. regional banks with more than $600B in combined deposits and was founded by Eugene Ludwig, former U.S. Comptroller of the Currency. Deutsche Bank built the Memento ZK Chain. BitGo integrated institutional custody into Prividium infrastructure. First Abu Dhabi Bank is operating through ADI Chain. More than 35 institutions are reportedly evaluating the stack. These organizations operate under different regulatory systems, across different markets, and with very different institutional incentives. Yet they are converging toward similar infrastructure conclusions. That matters because large financial systems rarely transition through ideology. They transition when the operational burden of the old model becomes harder to justify than the coordination efficiency of the new one. Within this architecture, $ZK functions as the native asset of the @zksync network: governance, protocol-level coordination, and native gas for ZKsync Gateway, which aggregates settlement activity across ZKsync chains and Prividium environments.
