Now that the second Pennsylvania death has been revealed, it is clear that Gov. Shapiro's press conference (& the media coverage) was misleading.
1. Gov. Shapiro used the term "unvaccinated" to describe the two. But neither child was eligible for the MMR vaccine. The boy died right after birth, and the girl at 6 weeks.
2. Gov. Shapiro stated that the deaths were preventable. This does not appear to be the case. All the facts are not known, but the best current evidence suggests the boy likely died from trauma from delivery or resuscitation, not measles. The girl had Amish Lethal Microcephaly, a condition that virtually always results in death in the first months of life. Calling her death “preventable” was misleading in that it strongly implied she would otherwise have survived infancy (and, again, she wouldn't have been vaccinated at that age.)
When Gov. Shapiro mentioned two "unvaccinated" individuals whose deaths were "completely preventable," how many listeners thought one would be a newborn with a traumatic rupture of the spleen & the other a six-week-old with a severe genetic condition that's lethal in the first few months of life?
The natural impression was that Gov. Shapiro was referring to two vaccine-eligible people who died from measles because they declined vaccination.
Gov. Shapiro (and the media) should apologize & publicly correct the record. The public has lost trust in health officials & the press because of misleading announcements and news coverage. This incident has only heightened that loss of trust. youtube.com/watch?v=6hYU4TFx…

In 2021, Pennsylvanians voted to amend the state Constitution after the Wolf–Shapiro COVID years. We limited the governor’s emergency declarations because we lived the lockdowns, the school mandates, and the enforcement.
We voted no, and no means no.
Josh Shapiro now wants that authority back — and more — through a ~500-page rewrite of PA Department of Health communicable-disease rules (Chapter 27).
The proposal adds “prevention, containment or mitigation” as grounds for disease-control measures. It would let DOH or local health enter apartments, buildings, schools, and other locations with only an official ID. It would require schools to give health officials private, unobstructed access to students — including during class — with no parental-presence requirement.
Public comment is open through September 21.

Police have issued an arrest warrant for Zymire Hughes, who was reportedly terrorizing and threatening to k*ll people at Center City in Philadelphia while wearing a Halloween mask.
Hughes allegedly chased multiple people, even causing one woman to severely injure her leg.
Officials believe he may have fled the state to California or Nevada.

Pennsylvania officials confirmed Thursday that a roadside hole cannot be approached without assembling a minimum seven man advisory board.
One man digs, two supervise the man digging, one supervises the supervisors, one stands near a truck eating something wrapped in foil, and two have been discussing a completely unrelated retaining wall they worked on in 2006.
“We don’t take chances,” one worker reportedly said. “Last year somebody tried looking into a hole alone. Never again.” Work briefly resumed around 10:17 a.m. before someone said “Whoa, whoa, whoa,” causing the entire operation to shut down for 45 minutes. A specialist was then called over to squint at the dirt. He confirmed it was dirt.
Traffic remains backed up six miles.
