Woke up to a lovely positive review of As We Once Were on Pitchfork (no American press person, no major label budget, just the record finding its way).
We're up against huge releases this week. If you can spare a tenner, I'd be so grateful 🙏

On her third album of elaborate art-pop, the Anchoress tackles personal upheaval with dry wit, unconventional production, and a more cohesive vision

My new album, As We Once Were, is released today!
14 tracks. One massive concept. 21 vintage synthesizers & 4 generations of women. All wrapped up with some really special guests including James Dean Bradfield from Manic Street Preachers, Hannah Peel, Gwenno, and Eaves Wilder.

Just woke up to find @KemiBadenoch is allowing this guy as a Tory candidate.
He was convicted for racial harassment for 5 specific blogs. But that wasn’t all - he’d published *reams* of deeply racist, misoginistic and pornographic material about me.

Coming in August, a new record by The Anchoress.
Here are some of the ridiculously kind and lovely things people have already said about the first two tracks. As We Once Were, will be out August 7th via Last Night from Glasgow.

Today marks 40 years since Thatcher sold off British Gas.
Remember the “Tell Sid” campaign? Turns out Sid took us all for a ride.
Thatcher called it creating a share-owning democracy. In reality, it was selling off the family silver – public assets built by generations of working people, handed over so private companies could make billions.
Forty years on, British Gas and Centrica have made obscene profits, while millions of people have struggled to keep the heating on.
That’s what happens when you run essential public utilities for private profit instead of the public good.
Energy isn’t a luxury. It should be run in the interests of the people who rely on it, not shareholders looking for bigger dividends.
Enough is enough. Time to bring our energy system back into public hands.

Terrific expose of Musk's dark fantasies about the UK from the Economist

NEW: A convicted money launderer has operated at the highest level of UK politics for a decade. Why? Because Farage has enjoyed almost total impunity from the UK press.
In my new piece for @thenerve_news, I expose the decade of denial that’s enabled him to act with impunity

Haunted once again…
A 3 year old in Bluey pyjamas watched ICE shoot her father dead
Then his lifeless body dragged from the car & handcuffed
He had a Social Security #
He wasn’t even the man they were after
Not fleeing
Not undocumented
Now dead
America, you are so broken.

The Guardian has now been told by three sources that in March 2024 Nigel Farage told senior Reform insiders that if he were to resume leadership of the party, and run to be an MP, he would need to be compensated for the financial harm of giving up his City career to spend 20 years campaigning and standing for election again.
Insiders and donors were insistent that Farage needed to return and to take Reform into not only a 2024 general election but a 2029 one, too. He argued that would cost him £5m, the sources said.
No mention was made of security costs in the discussions about needing to replace lost earnings, sources said.
Excl: Farage said he would need ‘a million a year’ to stand as MP in 2024

🔥 Bloody hell. This isn’t a leader column, it is a P45 for Nigel Farage.
Nigel Farage is now described as a “vehicle for chaos” whose behaviour is damaging Reform and whose standing “will continue to falter”.
And the killer passage: Farage claims to be an insurgent asking voters to believe he’ll sweep away a self-serving political class, but cannot credibly make that case while treating disclosure rules and scrutiny as an intolerable intrusion.
The media spent years coveting Farage. Now the worm has turned. 🎥
